Dem Whip's statement on Alexander's party switch
Hoyer: Rodney Alexander's Action Was an Act of Perfidy

snip>
"Rodney Alexander's action of filing for re-election on Wednesday, August 4th as a Democrat and some 48 hours later, just before the deadline for filing was to close, filing for re-election as a Republican, was an act of perfidy.

"Perfidy is defined as 'a deliberate breach of faith; a calculated violation of trust; treachery.'

"It was an act of a person without honor or integrity. In my 24 years in Congress, I cannot recall a more deceitful, more calculated, more treacherous violation of trust, which Congressman Alexander sought and which he received, than what he has done over the past few days and months.

"Congressman Alexander has solicited and has received thousands of votes and thousands of dollars based upon his representation that he was a Democrat; that he intended to serve as a Democrat; and, that he would stay a Democrat. Those representations were fraudulent.

"A man of honor, as many before him have done, would have changed his party affiliation well before the filing deadline. He would have had the courage to face a challenger and defend the failed policies promoted by his new party. He would have had the courage to explain why he has joined a party whose policies have left behind so many of the children and families he now represents and seeks to continue to represent....

3. That's why he's a Republican.
I'm sure that he sold his soul for the equivalent of 12 pieces of gold. Hope he enjoys his life in hell.

5. Is there any way at all now that a Democrat can get on the ticket?
Is Alexander now going to get rewarded for this?

8. There is a Democrat in the race
Zelma "Tisa" Blakes - however, she's not considered to be a very strong candidate. However, we can expect a strong candidate in 2006.

As for Republican rewards in the House, none have been announced yet but Roll Call says that it wouldn't be suprising if Alexander gets a really nice committee assignment. Hopefully he won't be in the House much longer to enjoy it.

10. Carville said today
that Alexander was the dumbest Democrat in the House, which means he'll now be the smartest republican running for the house.
