12. I'm talking Americans.
The Pentagon says that a wounded soldier, if reached within an hour, has a 98% chance of survivability. Multiply the American wounded by 2% and you have the additional (unreported) number. Do you really believe that all 10,000+ of American wounded have survived?

11. I think you're right
and technically, a casualty is EITHER a death or serious injury.
so there are about 5 or 6 thousand casualties, and close to, or over a thousand dead g.i.'s.

i don't know what affect the magic 1000 dead mark will have. also about 10 or 20 INNOCENT PEOPLE in two nations have died, but we are america, we only count our precious dead. the others are statistics not worth mentioning

Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 11:35 AM by TrustingDog
wouldn't be surprised if the number was almost DOUBLE.

they lie about everything else, why would they be truthful about the number of dead.

come on.....

21. When official number reaches 1000, we are doing luminaries in Houston.

To memorialize, and to make sure the public takes notice.

3. I hope not.
But I think it will reach 1,000 before their convention.

What are we doing? Numbers?

You are right. The numbers don't tell us anything about the destruction.

And we never hear Iraqi casualty figures.

5. Yes, not to mention the thousands maimed for life
All of those soldiers have families and friends. Multiply each death and injury by dozens of people who feel the loss.

Some will get all "they died for a noble cause" and some will stop and think that this was a waste of life for a reason they were lied to about and we don't need another Viet Nam, but we now have one and that sonofabitch in the WH is a moron and needs to get his ass booted back to Crawford.

according to http://icasualties.org/oif/

At this rate, it'll be 1,000 in less than 30 days.

8. And these are the ones they told us about.
So you know there are many more. Since there is a blackout of returning coffins, we will never know unless there is someone at Dover taking a count and filming for revealing at a later date...as happened in the Viet Nam war.

13. We could get there long before
The reporting is getting fuzzy once again, there were reports of five marines killed yesterday, plus a British soldier killed in Basra. Just what the numbers are I can't say, our eyes and ears have been shut off, I don't think 1000 is a magic number either. If people aren't paying attention now they won't then either.

16. I don't care..
of the numbers. Any death is a tragedy. This should be stopped ASAP. But how?
The Kerry approach (through the UN) won't work that well (I don't see my country send people to die in order to stop Bush's craziness). The same is true for NATO. Bush put the whole world in deep shit.. and it's not gonna be easy to get out of it.

18. Yes, I do. And not only that...
...remember W's "end of major combat operations" speech -- the one on the flight deck? That was given on May 2, 2003. At that time, the official number of American dead in the Iraq war was 138. That means that 793 MORE have died since the end of major combat operations. So over 5 times more of our soldiers have died since, than before W's stunt on the aircraft carrier.

And that's only the official numbers. What if we counted those who died of their injuries? And what of rumors that we don't count the non-citizen soldiers -- the ones who were enticed into serving with promises of citizenship as their reward?

Well, never mind about that. The official numbers already speak for themselves. His statement was, and is a lie. There's been more combat since than before, judging by the stark black and white number of deaths in combat. Pass it on.

One more thing. Just for a reality check, I Googled that speech. Here's CNN's article covering the event. Particularly telling is the rah-rah for the war, the phrases like "with the Iraq war winding down", the assertions that disgruntled Baathists are behind the insurgency, the belief that trains would enable UN food aid, not to mention delivery of oil to the ports, etc. etc.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/05/01/sprj.irq.main/

Actually it's pretty depressing.
