He seriously looks to me like the psycho-killer getting ready to rage and slaughter, he knows that she is in the picture and that the focus is not on him - though he grips her controllingly, and peers out at his victims with hatred and bile and a slight moronic grin.

It is the first truly frightening picture I've seen of the glare with the squinty texas chainsaw massacrist beady eyed tbi blankness - as if he can taste the blood and smell your fear.

Or am I just paranoid and he's a sweet old man?

There's nothing protective or tender about his hand on her shoulder. It's not even ownership. On the contratry, she is his shield. Her job description includes a lot of damage control. To balance out his thin-skinned rage/meltdowns by embodying another extreme -- but not just a spun-suger artificial "niceness", it's that she's walking on eggshells.
