August 9, 2004 04:33 PM EDT

LANGHORNE, Pa. - First lady Laura Bush defended her husband's policy on embryonic stem cell research Monday, calling Democratic rival John Kerry's criticism "ridiculous" and accusing proponents of overstating the potential for medical breakthroughs.

1. I used to be indifferent

toward her, but now I hate her about as much as I hate Bush himself.

So Laura, Shove it or if you prefer, go Cheney yourself (or go Cheney Cheney himself)!!!

2. Overstating the potential for medical breakthruoghs.
They know they are on the wrong side of history on this one.

Stem cells hold as much promise and potential as any treatment in the last half century. It may take longer to produce the breakthroughs than we would like (thanks in no small part to Bush's policies), but the possibilities can't really be overstated.

4. Using Laura Indicates Desperation
They know Laura is much more palatable than Georgie Boy. Thus, using Laura on policy issues -- which she must HATE! -- shows Kerry is drawing blood.

This is good news. Laura will crumble, in the long run.

It's so unlike her to have an opinion. I wonder if her face had a real expression on it as well.

6. She then goes on...
..to cite the relevant papers and critique them, citing the great strides made in antisense RNA manipulation as an alternative and enumerating the methodological hurdles still to be overcome in each of the avenues mentioned---

--or maybe not.

9. Laura killed an innocent 17 year old boy
She never did a lick of jail time for it either, and "some people" say she was very drunk and on drugs at the time.

Is that an honest statement? It's every bit as honest as right wing statements & ads have been lately.

14. Clueless, and factually wrong.
Stem cell research has already restored bowel control and the ability to walk to paraplegics, health to people with leukemia, and insulin production to diabetics.

Don't believe the lie that the research and cures or treatments are years away. It's not. It's here, right now, today. What *is* years away is cheap and common treatments.

Something to do with funding issues. :)

in diabetic mice, not humans as of yet.

17. I heard her spout her nonsense about getting the hopes up
of those suffering daily when the research and the proof wasn't yet available..blah blah something like that.

I couldn't believe my ears! Welllllllllllllllll, Lauraaaaaaaaaa, the reason there isn't anything on the horizon, HONEY, is because the likes of YOU and your screwed up husbands have PREVENTED this research from going forward for YEARS AND YEARS! And you CONTINUE to prevent it. She was talking in circles and I just wanted to be in the same room with her so I could "set her straight"... *ahem*

She's not one bit brighter than her dumbass husband...did these people actually attend college?????? Did they buy their degrees from some online diploma mill? The whole lot of them never ever cease to amaze me. Holee Smokes

oh, that's right, she was librarian?

the woman ought to be smart enough to know that if she pops her head up out of that gopher hole and yaps ignorant she should expect to get slammed for speaking so stupidly.

21. Laura Bush M.D.???

Musicians speak in favor of Kerry - and they are told, just sing. You have no right, no authority to speak on this issue.

Yet, Laura Bush has authority and credibility to speak about stem cell research?

HUH?

I can't believe it. Wasn't she a Democrat before she married Dubya?

And as a librarian, I'd think she'd be bright enough to know better.

What the Cheney was she thinking?
