Pipe bomb's are now classified as WMD's.
yesterday there was a teen arrested here in NC after a hit and run. He was discovered to have 6 small, less than 6" long, pipe bombs in the car with him, and a later search of his residence found more materials for pipe bombs. He has been charged with "Posession of a WMD".

This isn't the first case of this kind either. On 31 October 2002, according to this "Top Story", anotehr 17 yo was charged similarly.

:WTF:

1. We are in a less tolerant world
and the sad thing is that things I did as a kid - while they were not advised and probably illegal, would land you in prison today.

10 pipe bombs might have landed you in a reform school however i can NOT see them as WMDs - or by that logic they would have found them already in Iraq.

2. Using this logic we can classify every gun made with a magazine...
...as a WMD. Considering that driving a car into a crowd would kill more people than those pipe bombs I guess we get to look for that to be added to the list soon.

4. well then I am already a terrorist
I have several mags with a substantial capacity... but i don't see them as pratical.
They add too much weight to the gun. I am a pedestrian plinker.

Its an Alice in Wonderland situation where a word means what we mean it to mean.
when we mean it.

My sense is that they are going to throw the book at this kid in order to make an example of him. But honestly, pipe bombs are something to be concerned about.
They are also dangerous to the person who uses them - I know from experience from peers as a kid.

What may start out as something fun can have tragic consequences.

5. So am I. I own my own guns.
I also agree that pipe bombs are a serious issue. they are NOT WMD's though. Call them a potential weapon of terror? Fine. I'll buy that. They aren't going to kill 1,000's of people and lay waste to large portions of a city however.

8. No, of course not. It absurd.
This idea of making it a Federal Crime is totally unjustified.
It reminds me of the panic and craziness that swept the country after the US was involved in the First World War. It was open season on anyone with a German name.

Sheeple seem to WANT to be stampeded into giving up their civil liberties.
This can be appealed, I hope.

I know what an accidental pipe bomb discharge can do, but ..... i am not going to globalize it into a holocost.

Sometime teenagers exercise poor judgement - My chief concern is to head off any more Comumbines.

the cable networks as well, WMDs. They've over done this to the point where almost anything is considered a WMD now. There are some very large and not so large corporations in this country that would fit the current criteria for WMDs I guess.
They've lost the use of common sense. Anything to keep the populace in a constant state of fear.
