After Kerry wins, will the Dem's various factions tear each other apart?
I am worried that all the unity will dissolve once the election is over, as each group, united to defeat Bush before the election, will start demanding that their own pet issue be the first to be addressed.

Am I wrong?

4. Which basically is normal..
as there is a lot more support against Bush than for Kerry.

Let's see. After the elections, we'll see what happens. If Kerry can hold some of his promises (about Iraq and tax cuts, for example), and drop others (about Cuba and Venezuela, for example), I'll be happy.

Just hope here..

9. i'm not sure some of them are part of the democratic party
people who think we deserve to suffer with more years of bush and say that 12 years of reagan/bush didn't teach us a lesson just because most in the party didn't elect the candidate they supported should probably not be considered part of the party.

if you look outside of du, most are supporting kerry and have no trouble doing it. i think it's why you see a small group of people so angry and say things like we need to suffer more with bush. because most do not feel as they do which is why they feel the need to go online and post things like that.they kind of remind me of alan keyes sometimes. they have their big issues but they ignore every other issue that affect people's lives and which can contribute to things like war. they ignore that kerry's plans for alternative energy sources would make us less likely to go to war for oil as we have done in the past many times. they would rather be preached to about how we are right and complain about how everyone else is wrong and how things are not perfect. just as alan keyes ignores things like sex education which CAN lead to lower abortion rates but would rather preach about how he is right and obama supports slavery and other extremist crap.

2. Kerry and Edwards will have to constantly remind us to help each
other. Time for health care, time for terrorism, time for taxes, time for civil rights and each faction will have to patiently wait otherwise we get to go through the last 3.5 years all over again!!!!

3. probably
but that is what makes our party great--we're allowed to disagree with our leaders and debate helps us discover new solutions.

5. Possibly
I've been saying that I will vote for Kerry on November 2, celebrate his inauguartion on January 20 and be ready to demonstrate against his policies on January 21.

At least I won't worry about being put on a no-fly list or having federal agents ask the public librarian what I've been reading for doing it.

We'll cross that bridge when we get it.

6. Sure. Its the American way of hammering out issues.
But not as nasty as the repub's will who will get over their surprise and commence the destruction of another dem. presidency. What will unite dem. voters? The repub's. Can we afford to let them tear everything apart again. No time for the easy chair after the election.

7. I do think different factions need
to be listened too. But at least in the Democratic Party people are not threatened or harassed for not marching lock step. Like those 3 GOP State reps that were threatened for supporting the Democratic Gov's reelection. I hope it never gets that way either.

13. yeah, that's why he wants to take away tax cuts for the rich
and actually do something by getting elected rather than self proclaimed "activist progressives" who just complain.

17. Some so called "self proclaimed activists"
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 09:49 AM by depakote_kid
have been working hard for many years on issues. Some of us even understand fiscal policy.

And we'll be there after January, not just complaining, but working the same way we have been. If Kerry wants to govern from the center right like Clinton, then he should expect serious trouble from his left flank. After all, we're part of the coalition too. And we won't be taken for granted again.

11. I'm here to unelect the unelected, nothing else
Mr. Kerry is my choice, and i disagree with him in advance, deferring
to Honourable Dennis Kucinich in terms of my real politics.

When Mr. Kerry wins, I'll fight for justice. What does it matter?

14. It matters quite a bit
I believe Kerry's ability or inability to maintain the unity will be a primary factor in 2008.

16. He already has my goodwill
I can't speak in advance what his policies will endorse, but i really
found clintonism to be a major letdown, and i don't see a serious
change in democratic DLC thinking that tells of a change.

Honestly, the most important thing Mr. Kerry can do is make some
changes to stop criminals from ever taking the executive again, like
serious campaign finance reform, and media law changes that stop the
corporate media dead in their tracks in pushing another fascist.

If Mr. Kerry keeps up the war on cannabis users, there's little i can
support being "the enemy". I presume he won't, but i've yet to be
un-warred on in my life.

We must banish the neocon rabble once and for all, or they will keep
coming back like termites.

23. I'd prefer a myriad of voices over lockstep hivemind...
honestly, as Will Rogers once said: "I don't belong to any organized party, I'm a DEMOCRAT!"

I think the disparate views are what makes democrats strong, not weak.
