Gov. Bill Owens (R) CO-says the Zodiac Murders were solved
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 10:44 AM by LibertyChick
because of public library records.

C-SPAN is running the Dean/Owens debate in front of the ACLU 0n 7/8/04.

Thank goodness a man from San Fran stood up and rebutted this.

Owens is attempting to justify the Patriot Act by using the Zodiac case.

:wtf:

2. Good question.
As far as I know, they are not 100% sure. There was a strong suspect named Arthur Lee Allen, but he was cleared because his fingerprints did not match a known sample of Zodiac's prints.

WTH is Owens talking about?

19. Yup.
He was a fascinating guy. The chipmunks! I thought he was finally cleared, with some other guys, like the Unabomber, because of the prints?

Well, someone needs to tell Bill Owens. He seems to feel that the Patriot Act helped solve this case!

3. I saw that my own self this morning.
I asked my wife if they had solved that case and I just wasn't aware of it.

Good thing they went through those library records then. Good payoff.

4. No, I think Owens is just misinformed or nuts.

what an odd thing to bring up as justification of what the Patriot Act can do for us, though.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

8. As a life long Bay Area Resident I can say
The zodiac killer has not been found .

They've been looking for him since before I was born.

10. Anolder man (60s) got up and said
that he lived in San Fran over 30 years, and to his knowledge, Zodiac has not been solved.

I was not sure if I had heard that right (from the mouth of Owens) until the man rebutted it.

16. Or pretty old
Yeah. He was described 40 years ago as in his thirties, so, he may be dead.

I was just shocked to hear Owens say something so weird to justify the Patriot Act. He used another case, but I cannot remember which one.

18. No one's sure about those prints---
planted or not, I think Arthur Lee Allen was the best suspect,

but he died in 1992/94?

So how did the Patriot Act help?

11. Zodiac Killer Has NOT Been Caught
August 10, 2004

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/killers_taunts021010.html

There have been two Zodiac Killers. The first was confirmed to have killed five young people in the San Francisco area in the 1960s and 1970s, but he claimed a total of 37 victims. He was never caught, even though he sent a total of 21 letters to local newspapers, revealing details about the murders only the killer could know, enclosing in some envelopes swatches of cloth snipped from one of his victims, and signing off "Zodiac."

13. They caught the NY Zodiac
but I'm pretty sure Owens meant the SF one.

And, he got caught because he had shot his sister.

Maybe Owens meant that one. I don't remember library records coming into play in that case, though.

Maybe he is thinking of the movie, "Seven".
