The President has little control over the economy
but notice how the bills were titled

ECONOMIC GROWTH AND TAX RELIEF
RECONCILIATION ACT OF 2001
http://www.house.gov/jct/x-50-01.pdf

Jobs & Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=110431,00.html

As pointed out in Krugman's column today

1. And let's not forget...
The IRS placed a sentence in four April 9 news releases which read, "America has a choice: It can continue to grow the economy and create new jobs as the president's policies are doing, or it can raise taxes on American families and small businesses, hurting economic recovery and future job creation."

Which, as it turns out, happened to be a verbatim transcript of a section from an RNC "fact sheet."

3. Oh criminy
Wow I had forgotten that one.

All politics all the time as Ed O'Neill pointed out and John DiIulio points out directly in his letter to Esquire Oct. 24, 2002

No policy apparatus just spin.

2. at least not when its bad
thanks for the link - it's a good article that puts the lie to most of the spin you hear about this economy. I think I will send it to my mom she is always trying to avoid discussing the economy by repeating your subject line.

4. Krugman's article pointed out what the Richmond Times-Dispatch told me
on Saturday.

I can't find the link but this rag (oft quoted on Fox News) had one of its infamous "From Wire Reports" bylined articles.

They actually revealed (as Krugman did) that the saving grace spin for the RW (I heard Don Evans on Hannity Friday afternoon saying this) that unemployment was ONLY 5.5% -down from 5.6%- is from a household survey not from Labor Dept. reports.

5. Has anyone reported what it would be if we used the labor
department reports? I'm curious.

Otherwise,

It's the democrat's fault.

or

If it's going good, like Ridge lied to us on Saturday,
it's soley due to the magnificent leadership of the repuke currently in residence. Opps = that one was about the "war-on-terra".

You get the point.

It's so simple. Got it?!
