White House swayed EPA after 9/11

At the White House's direction, the Environmental Protection Agency gave New Yorkers misleading assurances that there was no health risk from the debris-laden air after the World Trade Center collapse, according to an internal inquiry.

1. I think this is BIG.
Especially with the GOP convention in NYC. Plus, if you read the article, it's the first time I've seen a major media outled come out and say, unequivocally, that the WH misled the public. This is a turning worm in and of itself.

2. This passage is a beauty
Marianne L. Horinko, EPA’s acting administrator, said the White House’s role was mainly to help the EPA sift through an enormous amount of information. \\

Personally, I had no *idea* that the people in the WH were more qualified to "sift" scientific data and make decisions on which is the most important to disseminate for the safety of the public. Why on earth are we paying for the EPA if our WH is so very versatile!

4. I was told
..this by my sister early on. She worked very near the trade center. She kept saying, "I don't care what they say, the air is not right in that area."

She quit work just this summer. Just couldn't take it anymore. I just hope she was not harmed. The mental scar of getting out that day under the falling debris is enough.

BTW, she has seen through Bush's lies since day one.
