And for this some want to shoot us?
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 11:12 PM by SuffragetteSal
This is a rebuttal to a friend and my defense of Teresa Hinz Kerry in another community of which I am no longer welcomed in.

And here I am...shot back down to earth exactly what 'they' say about us liberal idealists! Somehow I thought the world would be a more just and fair place by now. I really did. But unfortunately the man with the most money wins in America and that man right now is George W. Bush who has over 100 million more dollars of campaign money for this election. Perhaps we all need to prepare ourselves that the worse may happen...4 more years because in America that is how it works, always has.

I hear so much talk about the founding principles of this country, yada yada, like somehow even that was pure and right (how ironic) but I suppose I have to admit then I must not have true American values. Okay I said it...I have liberal values because I believe in the distribution of wealth to all. I don't believe that anyone with billions of dollars deserves or even has the right to claim that as their own while others go hungry, shelterless and hopeless.

Another liberal attitude I have is that I think men have been in control way too long! I can't help it...the way they portray us starting with the condemnation of Eve in the garden, as if anything that goes wrong is our fault. It is 'our turn' to take the wheel. I can get pretty defensive sometimes...and the older I get the less the feeling goes away or should it? Let's get real here...the first lady has really never had any voice so far in the history of our country. As Bob Dole even said recently, "There isn't a muzzle big enough of Teresa"! How dare him...limp little weasel that he is. See what I mean? No matter how smart or rich or 'opininated' the first lady may or may not be, still the best she can do is bake a good chocolate chip cookie!

Well, I am rambling on but I do appreciate the opportunity for this discussion this evening and I want to thank you for that. I wish you well.

1. I saw Candy Crowley interviewing two repugs
Regarding Teresa Kerry not being able to be controlled and how that was a bad thing. They never came out right and said it, it was strongly implied. "Oh, she is hurting her husband with her big mouth." "Why can't she be more like Laura?"

They implied these things as if they had never heard Teresas speech on the night of the convention when she spoke. Here were women who were willing to stab other women who were fighting for their rights in the back.

But this is typical behavior. Brotherhood and sisterhood offer no solidarity. Hell, our revolutionary founding fathers were held in contempt by their fellow county men who were more than willing to tolerate the madness of King George. In fact, most of the revolutionaries after the American revolution had been won with help from the french, led lives of destitute poverty. Because the benedict arnold"republicans" made sure that their lives would be ruined for pissing on their poor King George.

2. Some things just don't change, eh?
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 11:11 PM by Kanary
Y'know, there are so many aspects of this to discuss. One comes to mind......

I recently spoke with a friend who went to the convention, and she was telling me about a woman who got seperated off by the cops, and taken away. I asked her what had happened to her, and she didn't know. I said, "You mean, NOBODY checked up on her?"

Nope, it didn't occur to them.

There's the solidarity for ya.

4. It is sad that things really don't seem to change.
All that hope and optimism that was awakened during the 60's and 70's seemed to have been but a psychedelic dream. Here we are in 2004 facing the cold steel truth of fascism, wondering if those times were real? Wondering if what I had ever believed was but an illusion thought up by children in the playground.

sigh...

6. I keep coming back and reading and rereading your post
You're voicing my very own saddness.

Y'know, it's sad and upsetting that we are seeing the fascism.

What really hurts, though, is the betrayal of our "own". That's the slice right through the heart.

Kanary, who appreciates your words...... more than you know......

3. Nothing says we have to COOPERATE with the bastards..............
those of us with small businesses can always cook the books to pay less taxes, just like the big boys, and say NO to rape. We can refuse to provide service to anyone who works for the federal government. We can monkeywrench. They can never win.

7. The Republicans NEED a divided country. We don't
Thank you, Mr. Obama, for wise words that are so obvious they're almost a tautology.

Keep fighting for what you know in your heart is right. Keep working for a better future and a better country, even if the lowest and the greediest will benefit from it, too. Remember, it has always rained on the just and the unjust. Do the right thing, and let the result be the result. At the end of the day, you can still look yourself in the mirror.
