BBV - So what's the deal in Boulder tonight?

Well here it is, about 3 hours past the close of the polls and not one single precinct in Boulder County has reported their results yet. It took them just over an hour and a half to get the early and absentee results published.

I wonder what's keeping them? Didn't they just get new machines so that they could get the results out faster? Oh, how silly of me. Maybe they're double checking the results to be sure ! Let's hope so.

moments ago I was looking at the number of pcts reported. It was 89 counted. Now it is at 86 counted. What the heck is that all about.

22. It seems that they had to unfold the ballots !!

Apparently Boulder County went with Hart's paper ballot system, using five central scanners instead of precinct scanners.

"To fit more ballots in the county's ballot boxes, voters were told to fold them and place them in an envelope.

"At the end of the day, workers had to unfold them and then wait to run them through one of five optical scanners, which record the votes on a memory card. The process was stopped periodically so the memory card could be removed and taken upstairs where the results were placed on a Web site."

Surely, Hart doesn't require the whole process to be stopped, and the memory cards run around to get an interim total?

Hey maybe THAT's why GB&C saw numbers go from 89 precincts back to 86 precincts last night? Maybe someone plugged in the memory card from their digital camera instead?
