We don't need Homeland Security..or an Intelligence 'Czar'
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 07:25 AM by SoCalDem
We only need for the people we hire, to DO THEIR JOBS..

National Security Advisor....Condi did not do her "job"

CIA ...apparently were too cozy with the Pres, and failed to do THEIR job

FBI....politics prevented THEM from doing their jobs..

Secretary of Defense (and his department).. Their JOB is to DEFEND us.. They failed. They ended up being a TARGET themselves, while they sat at their desks..

The President IS the "coordinator" of all of these entities.. They are all supposed to advise him, and with the additional advice of his cabinet, he should be able to come up with an appropriate action..

We have "employed" a cadre of LOSERS.. NONE of them did their jobs on 9-11..and have been so busy politicking for the last 3 1/2 years, that they have not done their jobs since..

That is the ULTIMATE hubris.. George just created MORE layers for iinformation to be filtered through..

He TOLD us that he was a "summary" guy.. A president should NOT be a summary guy.. A president should be an in-depth sort of person.. If George had spent a little more time in the White House, and in meetings (DAILY)with all the people who are there to bring information to him, we would be safer..

Homeland Security is just a porkbarrel boondoggle so that Tom Ridge could be compensated for having been overlooked as Vice President, and now we are planning to have yet another "busy-work" job for another bureaucrat.. More layers of people for the information to have to percolate.

What is needed is a serious pow-wow, with ALL the department heads, the CIA, and the FBI , the cabinet and the committees of congress. The system we currently have just needs a flushing out. Job descriptions, expectations and qualifications need to be spelled out.

Industries/services that are vital to our existence, need to be RE-REGULATED, and have strict oversight. Those would be

Airline industry
Communications industry
Power Generation industry
Banking industry

It's way past time for the people we PAY to start doing what we PAY them FOR..

We have no time to waste here. The good-old-days of schmoozing and lobbying each other for pork for their states and sweetheart deals for their families, should be OVER.. We cannot afford to carry on business "as usual".. As usual has cost us dearly, in treasure and in blood.

We need not fear the terrorists, as much as we should fear the inept "leaders" we have in our "employ".

3. I hate the word "Czar" for US political appointees
I really don't think US politicians should be dredging up images of absolute rulers when assigning titles to themselves. "Czar" or "Tsar" is the Russian form of "Caesar" -- not something that should be emulated in a democracy.

6. Not to mention they've been sooooooo effective...
...we all know how creating an "education czar" and a "drug czar" have just ELIMINATED ALL PROBLEMS in those areas (/sarcasm).

"Groupthink" was a major problem in the 9/11 intelligence failures. And we all know the surest way to cure groupthink is to add another layer of bureacratic hoops to jump through... :dunce:

9. Education "czar" did succeed in one way..
They have succeeded in wresting a lot of local control away from the schools ...in exchange for a piddly amount of federal money.. The scurrilous siphoning of local money that once WAS enough for education, has only made the schools more ndependent on that precious federal money, so the school districts MUST dance to their tune.. Nevermind that the Education Czars have all been tone deaf..

Instead of books and supplies, they have "provided" MORE TESTING MANDATES.. All this creates is more data to be deciphered...but WAIT...they have a solution...SOFTWARE produced by the likes of Bill Bennett and a Bush brother...for a tidy little fee, they'll be happy to tell the various school districts what they are doing wrong..

If teachers dare to complain, the attack dogs come out in force to "scream and holler" about how it's really the fault of those pesky UNIONS and union LAWYERS..And of course they float the voucher balloon every time schools start to rise up , and demand attention to their problems..

Parents only know that their kids are getting a poorer education than THEY did, and the desperate financial times have added another wedge into school funding. There was a time when people who did not have kids, paid their taxes willingly so that schools would be decent places for "the kids".. Politicians have now divided the tax base so much, that the selfish ones see no need to bother with schools if they have no kids.. The "It's MY MONEY" crowd is in full command.

The Czars have not improved education..but they have improved the bottom line of their families and friends.:(

5. Thank You for saying this! "Homeland" has a Nazi Ring...what happened
to American Security? And, agree that Bush's Czar's are just a beaurocratic layer that's more controllable for any president that we should be concerned about. Our Presidents already have more power than was envisioned by founders...especially the War Power that is making us Imperialists.

I really hope that this doesn't go anywhere and that Kerry nixes this idea and returns America to America and not this Homeland crap and Czar's for every cause that Repugs decide they want to champion.
