Clarification: Is dissension no longer tolerated at DU?
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 10:34 AM by mstrsplinter326
After having a post of mine deleted, and reading some of the other 'Ask the Administrator' posts, it appears that all dissension is now squashed at DU.

So my question is, Has the Democratic Underground become the Kerry Underground? Is the DU a top down Democratic Party function, basing its policies off of the DNC?

If so it is a sad day here. DU should be democratic, representative of the democratic community all through out the country. But since some Democrats don't support Kerry, I guess that cannot be.

Don't expect this post to be around long, read and respond as fast as you can.

Dissension is the base of Patriotism, and if, of all people, my fellow DUers cannot see that, I guess I don't hold out hope that anyone can.

It's better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it. --Jeseph Joubert

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president ... right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt, 1918
(Works for presidential candidates too.)

4. Dissent is one thing ....
Disruption is another ...

Imagine for a moment: a Bush supporter coming to DU to promote a PRO-Bush worldview ...

Would THAT posters view be a 'dissent' ? ...

Clearly: Dissent can cross a line into disruption, and become undesirable ....

Perhaps there are other reasons why your stuff has been deleted ? ... Maybe they violate forum rules ?? ...

you win some they delete some
don't take it personally -- I think sometimes the moderators have a longer view of the impact of a comment. That and, they're human too - maybe they did make a mistake, maybe not, don't be too sensitive about it.

6. Dissent is not the problem
The problem is the endless repeating and amplification of Republican spin. Any right winger would be very gratified to read how easily they infect the thought process here.

7. So go post it somewhere . . . else
Yeah, we're interested in winning the election come November. Sorry that doesn't quite turn your crank, but there is no shortage of places where you can voice your opinions, whatever they are. DU is for DU. If you don't like it, and can't make a coherent contrarian statement, then yes, your post will get the treatment.
