so he could cancel the election and have the state legislature pick the electors. "Dang! Foiled again!"

I thought that crap was over with here. I don't recall when the whole state has been under emergency alert.....no one seems to know how it works...or doesn't work.

Batten down. As a Texan I've also been thrrough a few storms. I've seen my entire state bashed by the ignorant.

Next time a big quake hits out West, I'm sure some will think it's God's vengeance on the ungodly.

10. Sometimes we tend to have tunnel vision.
Right now, we see Bush conspiracies everywhere!!!

Are you in a safe place? Is this a normal thing to declare a State of Emergency? The article said they were encouraging the visitors to leave the Keys, but not the residents. Again, is that normal?

15. No one seems to be very aware of it yet.
I don't think it is a normal thing. I have been through many hurricanes here, lifelong resident. I don't remember putting the whole state under alert.

58. I just looked at the probable tracks for both
WOW. They're both scheduled to hit head on, tracking pretty much right over the whole state. Bonnie hits the panhandle (with overflow to central FL), and Charlie looks like it'll bounce off the other and come straight up the state:

On Thursday, Charley is forecasted to pass over the Cayman Islands and then turn to the northwest into western Cuba. Late Thursday night, forecasts having Charley moving north very close to the Florida Keys.

On the current forecast track, the west coast of Florida would also be feeling the affects of Charley by early Friday morning. Charley is forecasted to come ashore near Fort Myers, Florida with winds that could be close to 105 mph.

Charley has recently been tracking southwest of where previous forecast models have indicated, and the timing of its turn to the northwest and north remain somewhat uncertain.

Residents in southern and central Florida should monitor Charley closely and begin to make preparations to weather a category 2 hurricane early Friday.

Keep your WeatherBug active in your system tray to monitor all the latest news on this storm and other tropical weather.

And Bonnie:

It is important to note that since Bonnie is a relatively small tropical cyclone, any slight changes in its path will have a big impact on which area is hardest hit

A tropical storm warning and hurricane watch remain in effect from the Florida-Alabama border eastward to Destin, Florida. A hurricane warning has been issued from Destin eastward to the mouth of the Suwanee River

Landfall is likely to take place in the late morning hours on Thursday. Tropical storm force winds are expected to reach the coastline of the Florida panhandle by around 5AM EDT (4AM CDT).

Bonnie`s winds had increased to 65 mph, and a hurricane hunter aircraft flying in the storm found a small eye wall had formed. A NOAA buoy in the central Gulf of Mexico and reported peak gusts to 76 mph around midday Wednesday, when Bonnie`s center was about 30 miles to the west.

You have my sympathy!! You're in Central FL, right? Uh, wanna come up to GA? (Actually, it looks like we could get a bit of a bite from these babies too. Glad they're small and I sure hope they stay that way.)

There is only one road servicing the entire Keys chain--US 1. It wouldn't take much to block it...like some tourist from Minnesota who's never driven in a tropical storm before.

in this emergency could the Bush* Cabal be liable. The number one mission for the National Guard is to help the state in times of trouble. I don't see the fighting in Iraq as helping any state.

Yep - the Weather Channel vultures are here.
You can always tell - they're the idiots out there in the raincoats standing on the beach during the worst of the blow...anybody with any sense is inside drinking beer.

(that would be me) Hurricane parties are bitchin'!

Not a very big storm, but, since these creatures can change course/strength very quickly - got my boat battened down - I had a talk this mornng with the guy at the marina/boatyard where I keep her...he said I was the only one to come and check out/prepare their boat for heavy weather. Are these people that dumb? Don't ask.
