August 30th - Sept. 4 - Will fascism be on parade in N.Y. City?
It's anybody's guess what the demonstrations at the Repuglian National Convention will turn into. One thing is for sure though, based on what happened during demonstrations in Miami, and Georgia, where demonstrators were brutally attacked without provocation, we may see brutality waged against the citizenry on a scale not witnessed in this nation since the Civil War.

Civil war. Think about it. For all due purposes, that is what may take place in New York City during the convention. The fascists will throw the Bill of Rights and our Constitution in the garbage, and bust heads as they see fit. They have a pr oven track record of doing so, even at low key Bush campaign events! They're already doing all they can to prevent and disrupt demonstrations, and when they fail to dissuade the half-million or so demonstrators who will be in the city, it will be open "hunting season" on anybody without a Repuglian convention badge.

Mayor Bloomberg must be held accountable for the actions of his "troops". He must also be held responsible for disrupting the democratic process, by refusing to allow permits to demonstrate on PUBLICLY OWNED land within the city. New York is a Democratic city, and right-wing fascists should not be allowed to run rampant, violating our Constitution, and committing acts of violence on its citizens and their out-of-town guests. And if indeed this is what takes place, god forbid, recall petitions against Bloomberg must be immediately activated so he can be removed from office post-haste, along with any other local officials responsible.

Fascists always fear the truth, more than anything. Wouldn't it have been smarter for them to agree to allow democracy to run its course, in an orderly and planned fashion, rather than try to do everything they could to prevent its expression? What they've done, is embolden the radicals even more, and angered even the moderates. No one likes being told "no", especially when it is their right as specified in the Constitution. It appears right-wingers only like the Constitution when it serves THEIR purposes.

Of course, the fascist's plan is probably much like they had in Chicago in 68'. They will attempt to cause complete anarchy by attacking demonstrators without provocation, and then try to paint the demonstrators as the "bad guys". The corporate media, of course, will go right along with them. Then the Repuglians will try to blame progressives, liberals, ....and Kerry, for any violence that takes place, even if it was caused and conducted by the fascists themselves.

My only hope, is that so many people will show up in New York to protest, and that it will so overwhelm Bloomberg and his troops, they will be scared into behaving properly toward the demonstrators. Only through sheer strength in numbers, do I think we can prevent assaults on ourselves, and our rights.
