Halliburton $1.8b Unaccounted For! Army must keep paying--KBR bankrupt!!
Halliburton Questioned on $1.8 Billion Iraq Work - WSJ
Reuters

Wednesday 11 August 2004

New York - Pentagon auditors have concluded that Halliburton Co. failed to adequately account for more than $1.8 billion of work in Iraq and Kuwait, the Wall Street Journal said on Wednesday, citing a Pentagon report.

The amount represents 43 percent of the $4.18 billion that Houston-based Halliburton's Kellogg Brown & Root unit has billed the Pentagon to feed and house troops in the region, the newspaper said.

It said the findings in the 60-page Pentagon audit report, dated Aug. 4 but not publicly released are likely to increase pressure on the U.S. government to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars of payments to Halliburton.

This, it said, potentially threatens the services that KBR provides U.S. troops and other personnel in Iraq and Kuwait.

3. anyone who read
http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com over the last year has been well aware of this.

She described a scenario last year, in late August of her cousin, a self described "bridge freak", who had been involved in reconstruction projects post Desert Storm.

A bridge near his home was bombed. His estimate for reconstruction was $300,000. He was not, in any way allowed to submit a bid. Bechtel's no bid, cost plus contract was for $50,000,000.

That is not a typo.

These guys are guilty of gross thievery. There is no accountability whatsoever.

The Iraqi people were perhaps the most skilled and educated people in the ME. We have caused them to be 70% unemployed.

The real cause of terrorism is desparation and unemployment.

We have blown it, perhaps irrevocably.

4. Don't forget the $11b in oil $$ spent so far with no record-keeping
KPMG was flummoxed when they went to look how the Iraqi oil money had been spent.

$11 billion gone with no audit trail whatsoever...

7. I'm not defending them, but it depends on what they mean by
adequately account. There's a difference between fraud, theft, and embezelment, and inadequate paper work, and verified documentation.

I think KBR and Hallibutron execs are crooks, but I don't think they are stupid. To try to get away with 43% of $4+ billion would be stupid!

Before yous tart licking your lips in anticipation of arrests, consider that this operation is in the middle of a war zone. If proofs of delivery, PO's, and BofL's are not attached to invoices, I can't get too excited.

The key word is adequately. Let's see where this all goes.
