Christian flags. Are they flying them where you are?
Its primarily blue with a white square in the upper left corner, that has a red crucifix in it. I've been seeing more and more of them flying with the stars & stripes on people's homes.

(...he asked innocently...)

7. A bu$h election and that may replace the stars & stripes.
Why do people need a flag. Its bad enough when someone wears their religion on their sleeve but this is scary.

It says these flags have been around since 1897...how is it that I have never seen one? (not saying that I've been around that long, but this is obviously not a new trend)

21. Pledge to the Christian Flag
I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe.

And that, friends, is why I don't allow my children to go to "harmless" Vacation Bible School with other kids. I was required to say this every summer of my youth for about ten years. Along with this one:

I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word, I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path and will hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against God.

31. Back to the Middle Ages. Big darkness, come soon

Flag of the Teutonic Knights, circa 1300, vile liars, propagandists and murderers in the name of Christ. The Nazis of their day. Quite glad the Poles whipped the shit out of them at Grunwald in 1409.

Flag of the Bushevik Imperials

See a whole lot of difference?

The Dark Ages are coming. We can only hold them off for a short time.

6. Popular with churches.
I've been asked (since my Navy specialty was into flags) whether it was proper to fly a U.S. flag over 'God's Flag'.

I quoted the code at them: Nothing flies over the U.S. Flag.

42. I have a peace flag like that.
I love it! It hangs in the window facing a fairly busy street. Below it, there are a Kerry poster and a caricature of B* that says, "You can't spell War without W." So far, I've seen one man taking pictures of the window (whether friend or foe, I have no idea) and a woman who lives down the street brought me homemade cookies "because I enjoy looking at your window so much."

:D

23. Around here it's lawn crosses
They're about three or four feet tall. They started appearing about two years ago when a local church gave them out to their members at Easter. Most people took them down after the Easter holiday was over, but a few left them in the yard. The second year, there were even more year-round crosses, and now you can hardly go down any street in my neighborhood without seeing one or two permanent lawn crosses.

26. i agree.
it feels more and more like we're headed towards that. the fundies are all foaming over their 'savior' in the white house, and as frank herbert once wrote:

"when religion and politics ride in the same cart, almost nothing can stop it. even as it heads off a cliff."

that's where i see the fundie/likudnik/neoclown wagon trying to take us all. orgasm for them is the apocalypse, and they'll do anything to make it happen. identity flags are just another step in the process that is dividing this country, and leading us down the dark path.

with the "alert" patients, and these sessions are about the "Upcoming rapture"!
Mind you this is NOT a religous based convalescent hospital. We have patients of all faiths. This fundie nutjob has been ramming this rapture shit down patients throats. An older jewish patient complained that this shouldnt be going on at a resident social session and the fundie said something to the affect of "I'm just trying to save your soul". :puke:

46. I've seen them in churches for years
When I was in Sunday School in Wisconsin, we used to open Sunday School with a little worship service in which we all sang "Onward Christian Soldiers" while some kids in the upper grades got to carry the church flag down an aisle between the folding chairs where the kids sat. Then we'd all break up into age groups for our Sunday School lessons at separate tables.

This was in the 1950s.

48. Haven't seen them here in my part of the Bible Belt.

I never knew such a thing existed until a few years ago, despite living in, and attending church in, the Bible Belt for many, many years. Apparently a lot of churches have them hanging next to the US flag in the sanctuary but either I never saw them or just thought they were state flags or something.

No yard crosses here, either, just roadside floral crosses where people have died in auto accidents.

Churches over there display the US flag in the sanctuary??

Is this just certain protestant ones, or do all churches do so?

That's just weird.

Do you have flags everywhere else too (classrooms, offices etc)?

I live in a semi-rural community just north of Nashville and commute into town every morning for work. I haven't seen them popping up other than the usual ones on pastor's cars.

EDIT: On the other hand, I've been seeing a resurgence of vehicles (primarily Saudi-friendly SUVs) plastered with 4-6 flags and a lot more Bush/W stickers. I'm starting to see more Kerry stickers as well, though.
