MoveOn/Voters BLEW IT with choice of REAL PEOPLE ad winner
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 01:51 PM by digno dave
The second and third place ads were FAR SUPERIOR and FAR MORE EFFECTIVE than the one that one. They were more eloquent than the young marine who spoke of the "lie" concerning WMDs.
The two "reformed" Republicans who placed 2nd and 3rd would appeal to moderates and other republicans who are dissatisfied with *.
The partinsan tone of the winning ad will turn off many voters. This combined with the fact that John Kerry himself thought there were WMDs defeats the purpose of the ad. This ad appeals to Nader voters more so than it does to Kerry voters.
Sorry, but MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Verry dissapointing. I hope they decide to air the other ads in the future.

1. I agree. Why can't there be many or all of these run during the repuke
convention? I gave almost all of them a higher score than that one.

ads. I even think it was his idea to have regular people tell their own story. They (we) just chose the wrong one to run.

5. I agree that the soldier ad will be less effective
than the 2nd, 3rd and even the 4th and 5th ads would be. I particularly liked the former Ambassador.

The GOP has practically made WMDs a non-issue.

9. Ugh. they picked the marine?
I ranked almost all of them higher than that one.

The lady in Wimberley, TX nailed it!

second guy's "Conservatives are about conserving" bullshit. I mean yeah, it's nice to reach out to moderates and all, but that's just flat-out untrue.

15. I'm a dissenter here on this. I think the Marine will be very effective -
Especially (obviously) in swing states. I think it will have a real good white male appeal - which we always need help with. I thought there were several excellent choices - and which ever way they went would work. But I, for one, actually think this was an excellent choice. Sorry - I actually don't like disagreeing with my DU comrades - whom I hold in such high esteem.

17. I'm with you.
I liked most of the ads they had, but what I liked about this one is he just used the word "lie". We tend to get way overboard with making our arguments and just keeping it simple is the best way when dealing with swing voters. The people that are going to see these ads are watching the RNC on tv, are we going to appeal to them by making big, boisterous claims that they won't research for themselves and will ignore without listening? We need to put ourselves into the mind and thoughts of everyday people who aren't political junkies like us. Keep it simple, and make a powerful point. That word "lie" stings and resonates, at least to me it does.

The war is a big issue and having an actual Marine speak about his experiences and how he was disillusioned seems to be pretty simple and impactful. I get the feeling these ads are raw "samples" and will get more polished when they move forward.

With all that said, I still liked some of the other ads better. But I'm not unhappy with the choice we made either.

19. I agree with you....
...the ad is simple, direct, and understated. This will resonate with those of us who have served and have many of the same questions.
