John O'Neil has thoroughly had his ass
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 06:56 PM by Bush was AWOL
handed to him on the two shows I've watched him on today. Will anybody take this piece of shit serious after today's beatdowns on Crossfire and Hardball? Anybody that has watched either of these two programs with an open mind can't possibly take this scumbag serious can they?

big time. He was probably expecting everyone to be as nice to him as Sean Hannity. Anyway, the sorry fuck has been exposed.

3. Tweety just shoved it up his a**
O'Neill said "he hasn't had a chance to talk."

Tweety said "you talked for 20 mintues, John. I'll clock you and prove it. Don't try that old trick. It's a CONSERVATIVE trick."

I'm telling you folks, Tweety is no longer in full-blown whore mode. At the very least, he played for our side today.

He was an aide to former Speaker of the House Tipp O'Neil, however...

13. Yep, but for some reason Rove wants him out there on TV
For the life of me I can't figure out why. O'Neill can't be helping, but I must admit he's an excellent liar and he doesn't back down no matter what. They must be getting some wacky polling that says he's effective. Maybe they're polling Freepers?

If Rove is smart (and I don't think he is), he'll yank O'Neill off TV tomorrow.

27. Nope - works perfectly for the AWOL charges.
Kerry can prove his whereabouts and records.

Bush only has what he claims - no records - no witnesses - same crap they tried and failed with on Kerry.

On the contrary, the records that do exist lead one to believe that he is as we claim - unfit to be President and a LIAR.

No - we can clean his clock with this.

bush* = AWOL = DESERTER = UNFIT TO BE PRESIDENT the 1st time, let alone be re-selected.

Said who are we to believe, the Navy, Kerry's crew mates or your book? Said Kerry served honorably and did more than himself or the president. Matthews has changed completely since his attitude before the convention. I think he will vote for Kerry.

Wow, I've had issues with Tweety in the past, but he destroyed O'Neill today. The final segment was especially sweet. Amazingly, he's had the best rebuttal I've seen yet on this subject.... "So Mr. O'Neill, you're saying the Navy and his crew mates are lying".

36. Part of the e-mail I sent to Tweety:
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the way in which Chris handled the interview tonight with John O'Neil on the "Swift Boat Veterans against Kerry" and this book of lies he has written-"Unfit for Duty". His questions about O'Neil's voting history were brilliant--a textbook lesson on how to conduct an interview.

According to Media Matters, O'Neil has made over $15,000 in contributions in the past 15 years--all to Republican candidates. If he supports Democrats--as he claimed (lied) on Hardball tonight, then how is it possible that he has never financially supported them? I say he's put his money where his heart is and it's clearly not with the Democrats--as this book of his proves. It ought to be sold in the fiction section.

I'd also like to thank Chris for his pointing out O'Neil's tactics--trying to claim Chris had not allowed him to speak and for his final statements praising John Kerry's service to this country at the show's close.

Hardball repeats tonight at 11pm Eastern for those of you who missed it-the interview with O'Neil is in the second block of the show--at about 25-30 minutes in.

29. Carville and Davis did a good job of
discrediting O'Neil but time constraints kept it from being a real brawl. If the "discussion" had gone on any longer I believe Carville would have punched the guy's lights out. I've never seen him so mad.

Tweety used his hour well and didn't go off on one of his little tangents today. He chewed O'Neil up and spit him out while the other guest, John Hurley of Veterans for Kerry, sat and smiled. Hurley got in some good licks of his own and I was impressed that he was so well-prepared.

It looks as though the pundits (the smart ones, at least) have decided to put this story to bed once and for all. Drudge has been excerpting this "book" for a week now, drip-drip-dripping dirty little tidbits that Rush and Hannity disburse to the masses each and every day. I think everyone is sick and tired of it. The book will tank quickly.

Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 08:29 PM by buycitgo
WHY didn't tweety go after the funding specifically, ASK him point blank WHO paid a hundred thousand out of the hundred fifty start up cost? make him SAY robert perry. THEN, make him say how much money he gives to pugs, and how much he gives to dems. tell him all he had to do was check the internet to find out, if he played dumb.

make him SAY who he voted for in 2000; he said it was Perot twice! and I could SWEAR he said 'yes' under his breath when tweet asked him if he voted for Gore! please check that.

ALSO, he should had continuted to go after him when the private EYE was mentioned. Why would they hire a private EYE to sneak around Kerry's supporting vets? as he said, if they were at ALL interested in finding out the truth, why did they not just INTERVIEW them under normal circumstances? he should have HAMMERED him on that.

And I thought he gave him WAY too much consideration at the beginning. He SHOULD have connected, at the beginning, how ONeill was a pug op for over thirty YEARS, how his law firm represented BUSH when he was governor, for god/s sake. stuff like that. setting up all this in advance would have completely destroyed any hope of ONeill being seen as anything but a sleazy, hired character assassin.

WHY did he let him put out his crap first? I thought he raised some points of contention, saying that he had documentation about several instances of contention, re: how much enemy fire was going on when he killed the RPG guy, the changed story on one of his purple hearts.

not that I believe what he said, BUT schWING voters might hear some putatively reasonable sounding charges there, and WONDER WTF is going on.

and WHY did he let him skate on Corsi? not ONE question on that? WHY? he LIED about him before, saying he was NOT a co-author! why didn't he call him on THAT obvious lie, right off the bat?

See what I'm saying?

that said, tweetser did, for the most part a much better job than ususal of shedding light, rather than shedding his own water weight, via his piehole.

if there were any money in marching bands.

Giving him time to tell his story in the first place is their problem. He's been beat down over and over. Where's the air time for critics of Bush's TANG record? Those charges are met with only derision and dismissal, not repeated, in depth discussion.

39. O'Neill wouldn't comment on Bush
Matthews finally got O'Neill to admit that Kerry showed courage in Vietnam by going into the jungle after a VietCong, not knowing what he would find there. The issue seems to be whether there was one or several VietCong and whether they had returned fire. O'Neill finally admitted that the act of going into the jungle itself was courageous, although he kept repeating that Kerry shot a kid in the back (I think he repeated that "shot in the back" line at least 6 times), each time saying it was allright for him to have done it, although not heroic. But O'Neill ducked the question each time that Matthews asked him how Bush would compare to Kerry in the courage department. Since the main issue is "fitness for command" why can't O'Neill comment on Bush? I was disappointed that Matthews didn't press that point to the very end.
