2 Ohio polls released today, O'Liely choses to report the one that shows
Bush "leading" (within the margin of error) as saying "Bush is ahead again" and ignore the one that shows Kerry ahead.

Not to mention the one showing Bush leading is from a relatively small newspaper and the other is from a professional firm with probably the best track record of any organization so far this year(including the primraries of course).

Here are the polls and sources
http://www.wcpo.com/news/2004/local/08/08/swingvotes.html
A Columbus Dispatch poll shows that President Bush and John Kerry are still neck-in-neck in the state but that undecided voters largely disapprove of aspects of President Bush's leadership.

The poll shows Bush at 47-percent, Kerry at 44-percent and Ralph Nader at two-percent. The margin of error was plus or minus two percentage points.

Seven-percent of respondents to the mail poll said they were undecided.

More than three-quarters of those said the country is on the wrong track.

And more than seven in ten say they disapprove of Bush's handling of the economy and Iraq.

As a group, the undecided voters' responses to the major issues of this election more closely matched those of Kerry supporters.

The Dispatch surveyed more than 3,000 randomly selected registered Ohio voters who said they plan to vote on November second.

Kerry and Bush Remain Tied Among Likely Voters in Ohio

John Kerry and George W. Bush remain tied among likely voters in Ohio according to a survey by the American Research Group. A total of 48% of likely voters say they would vote for Kerry if the presidential election were being held today and 45% say they would vote for Bush. A total of 2% of likely voters say they would vote for Ralph Nader and 5% of likely voters are undecided.

In a race between just Kerry and Bush, Kerry is at 48%, Bush is at 45%, and 7% are undecided.

These results are based on 600 completed telephone interviews among a statewide random sample of likely voters in Ohio. Of the 600 likely voters, 38% consider themselves to be Republicans, 38% consider themselves to be Democrats, and 24% consider themselves to be independents. The interviews were conducted August 9 through 11, 2004. The theoretical margin of error for the total sample of 600 is plus or minus 4 percentage points, 95% of the time, on questions where opinion is evenly split.

Ohio likely voters Aug 11 Jul 22 Jun 23 May 12

George W. Bush 45% 45% 43% 42%
John Kerry 48% 47% 49% 49%
Ralph Nader 2% 3% 2% 2%
Undecided 5% 5% 6% 7%

3. There's a hell of a lot of human garbage in Ohio
I've lived here all my life and I love my native state, but I have to admit there's a strong streak of the ugly type of conservatism here, and it's been that way as least as far back as the Civil War.

4. Does anyone know where the conservatism is least ugly in the country?
It isn't a rhetorical question at all. I'd genuinely like to know.

5. There is no real Democratic Party structure in Ohio.
The Democratic Party, such as it is, consists of various candidates running on their own. If they win great, but there isn't state-wide coordination. There are also no state-wide office holders.

Consider also that the money that Bush has pumped into the state is incredible, despite everything he isn't doing all that well.
