1. Although You Forgot
But we do help them. The tax cuts, oh, pardon tax *relief* we give the rich will benefit the poor because the business owners etc. will invest and hire more people and buy products, etc. Gosh, idiot liberals don't understand trickle down economics.

Besides, the Church will help these people. It is the Church's job, not government.

3. Specified
There is no point in helping them... they will just squander all their dough and it will end up in the hands of the wealthy once again.

The problem I have with that is.... while that money is changing hands... and "sposedly" flowing back up to its rightful ownwers... what will the cumulative effect on the economy be??? Or is it a better effect when yachts are selling hot and heavy rather than medicine, groceries and other things that go bump in the night.....

2. Let them pull themselves up by their own boot straps.
That is a family favorite. I believe if was Jesse Jackson who said "if you pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, you will fall over".

4. *All* the sanctimonious, stone-hearted rationalizations for selfishness
And at this point, I hope they all end up in my shoes, and can't find their way out.

At the same time, I'm just as angry with the DEMs for dropping poverty issues from their agenda, too. They're complicit, and that's just as bad, if not worse.

As I've said before...... it doesn't matter whether I die because of Repunk policy, or Democratic policy.... I'm just as dead.

A pox on all their houses.

6. Is this a quiz? ^_^
I can't recall......... although, to be fair, I don't usually watch TV news.

I saw "Affluenza" and "Day's Work For A Day's Pay" on LinkTV.

As for any compassionate mention on network TV....... it's probably been ages.

Why you ask?

8. Wait til people finally have enough of dying quietly,
explode into the streets, and have one huge rampage.

*THAT'LL* be televised.

I'm VERY ashamed of this country. Sick unto death.

But I'm also tired of the WHOLE story not being told.

It's soooo easy for us to come here and bash the RW for their horrid treatment and hatred of poor folk. It leaves us feeling oh-so-superior and righteous. But, we don't carry that into action, and write letters, make calls or any of the other things that could be done. Then, if the subject of Clinton comes up, most go into rapturous praise, and get furious if someone mentions that Clinton did much harm to poor folk, especially women and children. Most don't want to hear, let alone know, that their hero caused much damage to people's lives. I wish they all would watch "A Day's Work For A Day's Pay", and let it sink in. Listen to the stories of those who died because of his cynical policies.

The time comes for Dems to look at themselves, and see their own complicity, and stop with the blaming everything on the "Evil Ones".

18. Well, I guess it just isn't OK to say the dems are also responsible.
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 10:34 PM by Kanary
I should have caught this early enough to erase it, so it wouldn't offend DEM sensibilities.

Is it actually better for Dems to say "It isn't politically expedient"? Somehow that's less offensive?

15. Back around Christmas time.
Every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas, the elite pounds its collective breast over the plight of America's poor. But once the holiday season has gone, it's the same old tired bullshit for ten more months.

10. You forgot: "Adversity & hardship build character"
Yes, no health care or dental care or proper nutrition & prenatal care will surely build character! What kind of character, we don't want to consider....

14. "Then the poor must go there!"
"If they're going to die, then they'd better do it, and decrease the surplus population!!"

Standard Republican idiocy. And what with charity supposedly being a foundation of Christianity, one would think a few more fundis would help out. But no, they need more cash for God's crystal cathedrals.

16. welcome to DU Soth!
My feelings also...remember Robert Schuller and his Crystal Cathedral and his whole "financial success is the feel good way to Christian success" (paraphrased by me) pablum? The poor? well that's what they used to pay taxes for...

It's incongrous to me...

23. 15 000 000 job shortage {JS} forces poverty
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 05:51 AM by oscar111
proof the poor are not lazy

for job openings stat, GO go DOL SITE, page on JOLT, news releases, t of c, table on job openings levels. 3 mill openings, 18 m. unemp if you count discouraged. result is 15 m. job shortage.

WPA creating 15 m. jobs would sure help end poverty.

The line that it's uncompassionate to help the poor is the one that makes one's head explode. I hear that out of conservatives and want to puke.
