Poll question: Who's the worst Attorney General of all time?
Palmer was Wilson's AG, and as bad as Ashcroft is, I think he only falls under #2 compared to Palmer.

1. John Mitchell is a distant second to Ashcroft...

4. Thanks for bringing Palmer to my attention.
It's reassuring in a way to learn that we've been in situations this bad before and survived.

7. Ed Meese
should be in that illustrious list.

And it looks like he's STILL AT IT!

9. Ashcroft is worse than Meese, but prior to Ashcroft, Meese and Mitchell
are the worst. I'll never forget Meese's porn commission. A bunch of church people sit around for months reading and viewing porn. What a great use of government money.

Mitchell was Nixon's AG and complicit in Watergate. 'Nuff said.

10. Everything being relative: Palmer still wins
Although, analyzing the totality of Ashcroft's career at present would be equivalent to measuring Himmler's political career in 1934.

11. Palmer.
Ashcroft isn't close. I mean, seriously...sixteen THOUSAND people arrested on "suspicion" under the Espionage and Sedition Acts. Ashcroft hasn't done anything to compare with that...
