Bush and pickles talking about stem cell on Larry King. I know Ron has to be rolling his eyes at this interview...

1. Neither of them know anything about this
No offense to the librarians on here, but I would not regard a librarian as an expert on stem cell research.

I'd regard a biologist or a scientist or a doctor as an expert on stem cell research.

And Bush is an idiot in general, so he of course knows nothing about stem cell research.

4. Laura hasn't even BEEN a librarian in - HOW MANY years?
Something like two years or so, early in her life, until she met and married duhbya and settled down. She can say she's a teacher and a librarian, but she hasn't walked the walk in a LONG time.

2. Yeah--but why do we need Ron Reagan?
I know some are eager to kiss his *ss just because he is a liberal who has a famous name and is related to a famous repug--but as a scientist--I can assert that sadly he is not very impressive on this subject.

Jr's are just political speeches--aimed at those who know nothing. And the only reason anyone would be impressed by them is if they are very ignorant on the subject--or just like partisan politicking a lot (and yes--I have read his article--not at all impressive to someone who actually KNOWS this field inside and out--in fact I was very embarrassed for him, as I was humilated on his behalf when I watched his speech at the DNC)

Why don't we--instead of Jr or pickles--listen to REAL scientists who have devoted years of study? Some of the ignorant things I see posted on the subject of SCR make me grind my teeth in frustration.

Instead of pickles or Jr, Larry King should have a few top notch scientists on to present all sides of the issue. Why would anyone listen to political hacks talk drivel about something they barely understand whether they be RW or LW? When we can listen to experts instead?

3. fine. where are these experts
they are NOT politicians. They do their job as scientists and have NOT been asked to speak by Bush. Maybe a Kerry Presidency will change that.

Sad we have politicians deciding what's best for our healthcare.

5. I don't mean by Bush or Kerry--
I mean people like Larry King--these pundits--who are supposedly educating the people when they "talk" about the issues. Instead of interviewing people who have zero knowledge--they should interview experts.

Trust me--scientists love nothing more than talking about what they do--it would be easy to get the best.

But they know that Jr or pickes can bring in higher ratings.

Also--they want this framed as a political issue--it is a much sexier issue with much more heat and passion when people are making their decisions based on their emotions rather than their intellects. And in this case both sides have made up their minds based on emotions.

This issue should be more about the facts.

And this is not something I expect Kerry to fix--this is really an issue of how Americans educate themselves on issues--and the involvement of the media. Sophisticated people would demand to hear from experts--not pundits. Instead--they lap up the slop that the media serve up.

6. And on the other side--Esquire magazine could have gotten
a very brilliant and knowledgeable person to write an article that would truly educate people on the subject. Why didn't they? Because they knew we would lap Jr up--just for political reasons.

9. yeah--but unfortunately the partisans on both sides
appear to genuinely think that "their" guy is a genius.

For the most part, we seem to be happy with hearing know-nothings pretend to explain very complex issues to us. And the ignorant but partisan people who actually know even less than Jr OR pickles make tremendous fools of themselves lauding "their" guy up--and many times end up embellishing what has been said---which makes them sound even more like morons.

I just wish for a better informed populace--when it comes to things like science, people should DEMAND to hear from people who really KNOW what they are talking about and not just blowing it out of their *ss.

8. These pundits have abandoned their job of keeping
politicians honest. It happens everyday when some right winger is allowed to have a platform to say the most outrageous things and the pundit does not put their feet to the fire and make them back up their statements. The only guy who does this is a comedian, Bill Maher. I hope I live long enough to see the day when the air waves are returned to true journalists, not these ass kissing personalities.
