Don't buy drugs from CANADA: terrorists WILL POISON you!!!!
THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZINGLY CORRUPT. I hope all the people that need cheaper drugs (old and young alike) and their families get really pissed!!!!

Already against drug imports, FDA raises specter of terror

WASHINGTON (AP) — "Cues from chatter" gathered around the world are raising concerns that terrorists might try to attack the domestic food and drug supply, particularly illegally imported prescription drugs, acting Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Lester Crawford says.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Crawford said Wednesday that he had been briefed about al-Qaeda plans uncovered during recent arrests and raids, but declined further comment about any possible threats.

"While we must assume that such a threat exists generally, we have no specific information now about any al-Qaeda threats to our food or drug supply," said Brian Roehrkasse, spokesman for the Homeland Security Department.

Crawford said the possibility of such an attack was the most serious of his concerns about the increase in states and municipalities trying to import drugs from Canada to save money.

"We get our cues from chatter that occurs around the world, which is related to us by the intelligence community, and also from past incidents and things that happened domestically," he said.

Crawford noted the 1982 Tylenol case, in which packages of the extra-strength variety of the leading painkiller were removed from store shelves on Chicago's west side, filled with cyanide and returned to stores for purchase. Seven unsuspecting consumers were killed, and the incident prompted widespread adoption of tamperproof packaging.

3. A little logic problem here
they are going to attack "domestic" drug supply through those imported from Canada with the allusion to the Tylenol case in 1982. How would they know they are getting Americans and not Canadians?

Anything to protect their friends the pill-people. Anything.

How many people are going to die unnecessarily now because they can't get the medications they need. I wish there were laws on the books to charge these people with murder through negligence or whatever it takes to hold them accountable.

9. Cleita, one of the things we really must do
is edumacate a lot of Seniors ( not all...... some are quite savvy about this!) about this whole fear mongering crap. There are so many who are lapping this up, and they will be the ones hurt by it. Many will know what is underneath this charade, and it won't change their habits.

But, I'm still with you on charging these idiots for all their malfeasance!

Kanary, who knows it's waaay too late to be trying to use words like malfeasance.... :hi:

12. LOL
Fortunately, the old people in my town are really savvy. We are the ones trying to get the vote out and educate people. If we could only move the younger people off their asses, then something could happen.

13. Well, I was assuming those are the ones you are concerned about
dying because of this crapola.

I'm glad the oldsters where you live are too savvy to get caught up in this fear game. I know a lot of oldsters who are gullible. Somehow, we gotta get them schmartened up.

10. It's because they are getting away with it with no
recriminations. If they had to be held accountable for lying or whatever it takes to keep them honest, things would be different. Apparently, this country has no laws that anyone can enforce anymore. We are living in an anarchy.

I was going to start another thread on this but figured I would put it here instead.

So, is there any evidence that anyone has EVER received faulty prescription drugs from Canada? Anyone? EVER?

only two articles in NEWS nothing says anything about anyone getting bad drugs from Canada. I think they really think that it is just eskimos and furriers up there, as if they are uncivilized yahoos with no system of safety controls.

25. moreover, those are US drugs,
sold cheap to Canada thanks to NAFTA. The same medicines cost significantly more in the US even though they are produced in the US.
Screwed up? You bet. But hey, it's Free Trade and it's good for the economy, or so they say.

28. The TRUTH about Drug company R&D expenses and research
Just the answers but you can figure out/see what the questions were.

http://www.alternet.org/envirohealth/19537/

Can you explain?

A "me too" drug is a drug that's a minor variation of a drug already on the market. Most of what big drug companies turn out are "me too" drugs. There are, for example, six statin drugs on the market. These are cholesterol-lowering drugs of the Lipitor type. Lipitor wasn't the first statin. The first statin to come on the market was called Mevacor. It had such a large potential market that other companies realized that rejiggering the molecule a bit would allow them to have a share of this very large market. Lipitor is now the best-selling drug in the world. But it is a "me too" drug.

The pharmaceutical industry talks a lot about how much R&D costs. But the R&D is consistently less than big companies make in profits and far less than what they spend on something they usually call "marketing and administration." Companies vary a little in the name for this but it's a big category that includes all kinds of promotional activities plus administrative costs like executive salaries, legal fees and so forth. This is by far the largest part of their budgets, usually somewhere from two to two-and-a-half times what they spend on R&D.

This is a well-protected industry that depends utterly on government favors. It lives to a large extent off taxpayer-funded research done in universities and funded mainly by the NIH. It lives off government-granted monopoly rights in the form of patents and FDA-conferred exclusively. It also gets huge tax breaks, both tax deductions and tax credits. So although it talks the rhetoric of the free market, it is on welfare big time. I think this industry owes the public something for being treated so very well.

19. Total BS.
One thing that gets me with this whole drugs-from-Canada thing: Drugs are less expensive in Canada simply because

CANADA HAS *P*R*I*C*E* *C*O*N*T*R*O*L*S* ON DRUGS

Let me repeat that:

CANADA HAS *P*R*I*C*E* *C*O*N*T*R*O*L*S* ON DRUGS

That's right - drugs are cheap & safe there because of SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.

Really, if politicians think people should be able to get drugs from Canada, they should also support price controls on drugs here in the US.

26. Canada is the new Iraq
"there was a case of drug tampering in 1982, in the USA; and food tampering, in 2004, in the USA; therefore, Canadian food and drugs are unsafe!"

"While we must assume that such a threat exists generally, we have no specific information now about any al-Qaeda threats to our food or drug supply" - translation - we have no reason to suspect Canadian drugs at all

The next thing you know, they'll be demanding that Canada provides documentary proof it has destroyed all of its poisoned drugs. Tommy Thompson will go to the World Health Organisation, and hold up a vial of M&Ms, and say "this is exactly the same size as a vial of deadly cyanide. If Canada had such a vial, they could kill your grandmothers with it!" He'll play a tape:

"Bob, you cleaned out that fridge yet, eh?

Take off, Doug, it's your turn!

You hoser, it's yours! Make sure you chuck that caribou steak, eh - it's got mould on it."

"Ladies and gentlemen, positive proof those evil denizens of the Great White North are trying to poison the whole world."
