1. You can vote anywhere you want.
States can't stop you from registering in their state to vote. You 'out of state' status is only a college thing so that they can charge extra :)..

Just change your registration. I think that the local post office should have the forms.

And if all else fails then just vote absentee.

2. Vote absentee
I think HAVA changed everything and college students have to register to vote wherever their legal residence is. They have to get absentee ballots. I'm really worried alot of college kids aren't going to know this and find out on election day that they can't vote.

3. I don't think you are right about that.
My daughter attends Iowa State and votes there.

She was a caucus leader in the primary.

Are you sure about your information?

4. I think different states have different rules
If you "reside" there for a majority of the year (school) your are considered a resident..even though you pay out of state tuition (family residence)..

It's confusing...but the sad fact is that "most" kids do not vote ANYWHERE..

What would be nice would be to separate the 'national elections' from the "local" ones..

Even years for senate/congress/president..

and all the others in odd years.. Most states seem to have elections of some sort every year anyway..

That would simplify ballots and voting procedures..

There could be a "national voter registration card" (numbered of course by social security number...everyone has one now..), so that people could NOT vote twice.. You would just have to show it in order to get a ballot, so the number would not appear anywhere on the actual ballot.. secrecy intact:)..

The local ones would have the propositions and council people & judges.. and a voter card or something like a bill with your name on it would establish residency..

Think of how easy the ballot would be..

It would fit on a 5x7 card.

This is not rocket science, folks.. They are making it difficult for a reason :(

5. I just checked...
Vilsac is encouraging out of state students to register to vote there.

Tuition has gone up dramatically. He wants them to register so they have a say in things like tuition increases.

My daughter was active in a voter registration drive on her campus, and is active in the Democratic Club at ISU.

Anyway, it is doubtful that she will be coming home much anymore in the summer. She can get better part time jobs there.
