Poll question: What reception will the U.S. Olympic team face in Athens?
During the Opening Ceremonies at the Athens Olympics, what reception do you expect the American team will face when walking in the Parade of Nations part of the Opening Ceremonies?

1. I voted for Booing and Jeering
and I'm torn about it. Hatred of our government shouldn't be taken out on the atheletes, but on the other hand, if there's a vocal indication of how much we're hated, one that even the media can't ignore, maybe more Americans will wake the fuck up and realize what we and the rest of the world know.

2. The thing is...
just go over to Freeperville to understand that most Americans don't give a flying fuck what the rest of the world thinks. It'll just reify, in their minds, the idea that the world consists of savages that have to be "Liberated" in the Bush sense of the word.

3. We will greeted as liberators - with flowers and candies
and the Games themselves will be a cakewalk.

7. I do not think there will be booing..
Most intelligent people know that the athletes, are people who have been working their whole lives toward this moment in time, and they have NO influence on our leaders.. Now Poppy might get booed, but I think the athletes will be treated respectfully..

Bush will probably make some kind of comment ..and if they put it on a jumbo-tron, THAT will get booed..but not the athletes..

disclaimer...if athletes act arrogant they might get booed...but that might happen regardless of who is president :)

I am just upset at how crappy the coverage has been for so long now, that I probably won't even watch:(

it would surprise me if there were boos from the GREEKS. Everyone I met (and I've been there many times and have made some native friends) are quite capable of differentiating between the American people and the American government. I really can't say what people from other countries will do.

10. Well they cheered.
That is good. I know some people like myself were concerned that the reception would be low-key or hostile but I was wrong. It is good that people can distinguish between people and a government. I really take comfort in that fact.
