1. Are you being evacuated?
What are your preparations?

4. I live on high ground so I don't need to be evacuated.
I am putting tape around my windows, and I stocked up on food. Also, I went outside and brought in objects that could be dangerous in 120 mph winds.

12. Dude, you live on High Ground in Clearwater?
There is no such thing as high ground in Clearwater! You're looking at a 15-20 foot storm surge there!

7. What are your preparations?
If this storm had waited for the "G's" and they named it "George".... then duct tape and visqueen (sp) would be appropriate. I feel for you people... am glad to be out of that area for just this reason.... luck to you all.

2. Stay safe, ok?
Too bad hurricanes can't just 'know' that they're not wanted.

Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Check in, if you can...
after the hurricane hits so we know you're safe! It would be nice if the DUers living in that area could check in as the hurricane passes, though that may be unlikely if the power is down. Keep safe!

6. Another precaution to take
is to fill the bath tub with water to use to flush the toilet.

Good luck to you.

14. I find this humorous
The news people always make this confusing statement, "make sure you store plenty of drinking water and fill up your bath tub."

They make it sound like the tub is great place for potable water. Of course, toilet use is what it is for but for the uninitiate how would you know!

15. Not humorous at all
Water will be a precious item for the next few days. With power lines down water may not be flowing for a few days, so storing water in every available container is very important. Bathtubs are one of the best. You can always boil it later to drink.

13. Uh oh
This is shaping up into the worst case scenario for Tampa Bay.

Having lived there for 35 years, and having friends and family in residence there, ol' BeFree is a bit worried right now. Thankfully, Mom and one sister are here on vacation, but fearing the worst, I fear they won't have much to return to. Alas, I will be heading back with them as the storm clears to work at putting things back together for them and a few friends.

DU'ers, say a prayer for the souls in Tampa Bay. If this storm continues as predicted they will be nearly as bad off as the folks in Iraq.

Someone may want to start a collection fund. The main needs will be for canned foods, cook stoves, 12 volt lights, batteries, and water containers.

If you live in the area, get to high ground and fix a place in the bathroom or closet to ride the storm out. Expect electricity to be out for at least a few days maybe longer. Put water in every possible container you can find. Pay attention to the weather radio and the advice they offer. Get a battery operated radio cause that may be the only contact you'll have for awhile.

Good luck.

16. I'm sitting here in St Pete,
the anticipation is bad. We boarded my sons' house up and then mine. We have him and 2 grandkids along with the dogs and hopefully plenty of water and foodstuffs. My neighbor didn't have a chance to get her home prepped so I gave her my cell phone and set it to dial my wifes' if she needs help. Think I'll see if she wants one room boarded up. Talk to ya'll later.

17. Helped a motorist today
Poor guy ran out of gas and was walking the wrong way with a gas can in hand. I stopped and gave him a ride to the nearest gas, only to find out the guy was almost broke. I gave him a few dollars and a few gallons of gas. He wanted my name and address, and I said if you want to return the favor, VOTE BUSH OUT OF OFFICE and I drove off into the sunset...
