"Bush's job-approval rating climbs back above 50%"...????
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&e=2&u=/usatoday/20040813/ts_usatoday/bushsjobapprovalratingclimbsbackabove50

President Bush (news - web sites)'s job-approval rating, a key indicator of an incumbent's chance of being re-elected, has turned upward, the Gallup Poll finds.

The share of Americans who say they approve of the job Bush is doing inched over the 50% mark to 51%. No president who was at or above 50% at this point in an election year has lost.

Matthew Dowd, Bush's campaign strategist, said, "It looks like the American public is not near as pessimistic as Sen. Kerry is."

Bush defended his decision to stay in a Florida classroom for several minutes on Sept. 11, 2001, after an aide told him about the terrorist attacks. Last week, Kerry said he would have told the students he needed to leave. "I was collecting my thoughts," Bush said. "I made the decision there that we would let this part of the program finish, and then I would calmly stand up and thank the teacher and thank the children and go take care of business."

2. The Gallup Poll has been consistently out of step with the rest of....
...the mainstream polls in that it has graded Bush higher than any other poll.

Nothing to get worked up about.

17. Not true
Sorry. I wish it was, but factually, that's not accurate:

4. Dem Strategist says to ignore polls

BTW, this CNN poll still appears to be an outlier like it was after the convention. I'm not sure why they're so pro-Bush.

9. I saw that after I posted...
The line that bothers me in the excerpt above is "No president who was at or above 50% at this point in an election year has lost," although I can hear the voice of Karl Rove saying "make sure you put that in your story."

That and the bitchy little aside from Matthew Dowd. I guess this will be the tone between now and November, getting progressively worse as we move along, and the secret to sanity is to toughen up and stay focused, eh?

11. That caught my eye, too
when I first read the article. Of course, since no other poll has Bush above 50 percent, what's that say about Gallup? I think the truth is, no president since Truman who was under 50 percent at this point in ANY major poll has won.

14. Because they have spent large sums of money to purchase him
They are protecting their investment.

Remember that inorder to steal the election they need to pretnd the race is close. They will always go for 50%.

5. Gallup Relies Heavily On Likely Voters
which is based on past voting. Now, recall for the previous two presidential elections, we had a peace and prosperity, and a lot of voter apathy. Today, we don't have that, so their model is out of synch.

8. Collecting his thoughts? How 'bout ordering fighter jets scrambled!
There were two more hijacked planes in the air. Of course, fuckhead knew before he entered the classroom that that first plane that hit had been hijacked - and that 3 more had been hijacked - and that Bin Laden was planning to attack America with planes...but gee, he needed to collect his thoughts...than do absolutely nothing! Of course, what Card probably whispered was "going as planned - sit tight."

12. Question about this.
Is this from the same Gallup Poll released like last week or have they done a new poll since then? From the last poll I also noticed something else that might be of interest to you.

It was put up on Crossfire a few days ago. Somethng like 48% of the people say they find Kerry "trustworthy" and "honest" while only 41% believe Bush is. But if this is all coming from that same poll of a week or so ago, the interesting thing is that then this poll turns around and says under the "likely voter" column that Bush leads Kerry like 50-47 or 51-48, something on that order. That means that these wonderful Americans do not give a flying shit if Bush is lying to them and if you cannot trust him further than you can throw a brick outhouse!! Now doesn't that say a lot!!!

13. Its one poll
by itself it is meaningless. IF the Chimperor was consistently above 50% in most/all polls then maybe we should be worried. But he's not. All the other data right now points to a Kerry victory.

Of course we should act as if we're 10 points behind... Rove has a "Surprise!" up his slimy sleeve, you can be certain of that, and these scum will use any and every dirty trick available to them so we must keep fighting hard no matter what the polls say or how the corporate media chooses to interpret them.
