DU traffic has been soaring lately, and the number of messages being posted every day is astounding. Since I joined DU 2 years ago, I have always clicked the "latest" link, and read through ten pages of most recent posts...around 250 messages or so. I have done this every day to get a decent idea of the topics being discussed. Doing this in the past has let me read through a good 12-24 hours worth of messages...NOW, however, with our huge number of new members, doing this only allows me to scan through 1-2 hours of recent posts. Everything else is scrolled off into the archives, and deep into the individual forums. Needless to say, this is very annoying!
I know I am not the only one experiencing this problem...and I just don't have time to log onto every individual forum (general discussion, lounge, conservatism, economics, state issues, etc etc)
It has always been much more efficient (and enjoyable) to read through the ten pages of the most recent posts to get an idea of what is happening.
I think now it would be a MAJOR improvement if you could up the number of "most recent" post pages from 10 to 20...maybe even 25.
It would allow everyone visiting the site to glance at a HUGE variety of topics all at once, and to get a better idea of what has been happening throughout the day...not just in the past few hours.
Here is my favorites link that I visit every day. You will see what I mean. Ten full pages...formerly a whole day's of postings...now just a few hours worth:
