Cheney does Dayton
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 01:19 PM by Droopy
From the Dayton Daily News:

"America has been in too many wars for any of our wishes, but not one of them was wone by being sensitive."- Dick Cheney

snip

"Cheney ridiculed Kery's claim that he would operate a 'more sensitive' war on terror, criticized the Massachusetts senator's votes on the war in Iraq, and questioned his attendence record for Senate hearings. Cheney alluded to the 9/11 attacks in making the case for another four years for the Bush administration."

snip

"About 100 military veterans sat on risers behind Cheney. The audience in front included around 400 Republican party supporters from throughout southwest Ohio and there were around 75 empty seats at the rear of the crowd."

snip

"Outside the convention center, more than 100 protesters lined the corners at the intersection of Fifth and Main streets, chanting and holding Kerry-Edwards signs high."

Sorry no link. I took this directly from the newspaper.

So it looks like the Republicans are going to go with the old tried and true and accuse Kerry of being weak on defense. I think Kerry is right in that we need to take a more sensitive approach in regards to foreign policy matters and the war on terror, but how will this position play with Mr. and Mrs. Swing Voter? Will Bush be seen as tougher on terror therefore making us safer? Perception matters even if it does not align with the facts.

2. Sorry
I was thinking of it in more of a metaphorical way. More like a mind fuck I guess.

3. And I should apologize...
for MY post...chalk it up to merely having an extrodinarily warped sense of humor....which is one of the things I think hampers the GOP; they have NO sense of humor, as evidenced by the fact that they can't laugh at themselves (audiences attending B*sh's latest speeches notwithstanding).

4. I hope people are paying particular attention
to how desperate these weasels are becoming. If there are any waffles on the presidential election plate, they are embossed with the GOP seal.

Their platform has touched on any number of topics, only long enough to get the words out and then swiftly move on before they get called on the carpet, and then it's right back to "Kerry is or isn't this" and "Kerry is or isn't that."

I don't believe they are connecting with the people that are likely to decide this election. They don't stay on topic long enough to assure voters of what it is exactly that they are proposing for another 4 years. Meanwhile, Kerry is steadily moving forward, staying on course and delivering his message, unfettered by the shenanigans and smear tactics of his opponent(Captain Bonehead).

This, I believe is showing Americans who is consistent, who has a plan and who believes in their abilities to better this country. Captain Bonehead doesn't have a clue what he believes in; it changes each time one of his 'slogans' catches fire in the public eye. He gets a phrase in his tiny little head and he just won't let go of it. Notice he never turns his back to the camera. That's so no one will see the pull-ring sticking out of his jacket.

5. Good post, you definitely live up to your handle
I hope you are right about this and that Bush-Cheney aren't resonationg with independents. I believe that Bush is one of the most polarizing presidents we've ever had and I'll bet that there aren't near as many people on the fence this year as in the past.

6. Thanks Droop, I'm trying my best to be optimistic.
Watching cameos of these two lunkheads leaves me with the same question every time: "What is it you are proposing for the next 4 years?" And it never comes. It's always the same rhetoric: "we're turning the corner", "we're at war", "we're safer now", "no child left behind."

Where's the beef? What does that tell me about your plans for the future? What it tells me is that you have no plans to change a damn thing and that you have no interest in the welfare of the American people. GOP business as usual.

This is starting to remind me of Bush take 1; "Problems? What problems?" Went over like a lead balloon.

7. Let's write CNN, WNBC and the rest,
pleading that they cover campaign event in proportion to the crowds. Since these whores are ratings driven, 20,000 at a Kerry rally indicates about 50 times the public interest as 400 for Dirty Dick, and should be covered commensurately.

8. Several us have already written about the "sensitive" comment.
But I like your suggestion as well. It's important to know whether each crowd is pre-screened. For example, I recall reading recently that one of these "Ask President Bush" events was strictly supporters, not just members of the public who went through the metal detectors. I'm well aware that Bush despises doing anything off-the-cuff and with the chance of being heckled, but I didn't believe that the Q&A things were strictly GOP. Inquiring minds need to know...
