Iron Jawed Angels
I finally got around to watching the HBO film "Iron Jawed Angels" which a friend video taped for me. It was stunning. Looking back on the horrible trials women struggled thru to win the vote was very inspirational. I'm newly energized for the fight against Shrubya.

The movie will be out on DVD on 7 September. More info at
http://iron-jawed-angels.com/

If you're feeling tired, our discouraged, go buy or rent this movie when it comes out. It'll fire you up.

1. Good show.
I liked it. Amazing what women had to do. We need to beware, this group is trying to take us back one step at a time.

2. Way to go, lcook!
I watched it again last night, and it fired me up again (as it always does).

I love the footage of all of them in the parade right before Wilson's inaugural with the cool music behind it, the older women, yonger women, Eastern European women, and the black lady that had originally said she wouldn't support them if they could not join them but then got in step with them. And the mighty Inez on her horse. It always gets me riled up.

If you have never visited DC and seen the suffragette's exhibit at the Smithsonian's American Culture museum, I highly recommend it! I went the day after the DC March for Choice back in April, and I have never been the same since.

I got two more young women voters set up with registration cards last night, so I was feeling great when I got home.

Do it, girl!

3. I read Jailed for Freedom...At least none of the women died.
to think that it took 72 years to get the vote.

4. I always mention this when I get on my soapbox
about women not voting. It absolutely drives me crazy when women don't vote. I have a degree in history and took a Women in American History class and my professor (woman) spent a lot of time on the subject of suffrage. When you really study how long it took and the struggles these women faced, to be a woman today and not vote is a slap in the face to every woman who fought (and perhaps died) to earn us this privilege.

7. women should vote just to tick men off but you know the only way to
really get a lot of voting is to make it superduper easy for people. When you have 4 million people voting online for a stupid Predator Vs. Some Villian poll...and yet only 50% of the people...

8. No, ease of voting isn't the reason people don't vote
It's that there's so little to vote FOR. This has been shown time and again and, in fact the Howard Dean campaign, which brought out so man previously uninvolved, even non-voting citizens showed it once again.

6. I loved it too.

Made me cry. I have a small pin that I wear that looks like a jailhouse door. It is a replica of a pin that the suffragets used to wear to honor those that went to jail to gain our freedom.

13. No kidding
Those men shouting "go to Germany if you don't like it here!"

It's been a while since I've seen the movie. I'll have to watch it again.
