Julia Child on George Dumbya Bush
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 03:05 PM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
this was in ms magazine last spring (same issue with janeane garofalo on the cover). i remembered it when i heard the news today and thought i'd post it:

"I was a Republican until I got to New York and had to live on $18 a week. It was then that I became a Democrat. "

Her thoughts on political issues are no less confident than her judgments on food.

Regarding President George W Bush: "I've nothing to say about him except that I am appalled that he was chosen by our people to be president."

Regarding abortion rights: "Pro-choice is the only way to be-- because women are human beings, after all, and should be treated as such."

the rest is at:

4. Julia Child is the product of the G I Bill
Ilearned this while looking at the her Kitchen on display at the Smithsonian this afternoon.

She attended Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in 1949 because the French opened it up to Americans as a thank you for liberating France. The American Government in turn paid her tuition, because she had worked with the OSS.

God speed, Julia. I will miss you.

It really helps to remember a time when people were actually able to care about others.

5. She was the best
May her afterlife be filled with as much as good food as she wants - ill-fitting clothing be damned! :D

6. We used to watch the old "French Chef" shows
when i was a kid, and my Dad would tease me by saying she was almost my mother - that he dated her but picked my mom instead. I believed it for years.

So I feel like I've lost a mom.
Great Chef and Great Lady

7. Thank you for that, I never knew what her politics were, only that I loved
her, and there are not many Americans who have not watched her at one time or another. I loved her with the 'Galloping Gormet' when they were together..there was a little tension and she stood her ground!! I love that woman. Reminds me of my mother who always used food for love! What good women...my mother and Julia!

8. I agree with her statements except....
Regarding President George W Bush: "I've nothing to say about him except that I am appalled that he was chosen by our people to be president."

He was NOT chosen by the people. He was chosen by his brother, his Florida campaign chair, possibly his daddy mailing in questionable ballots from overseas, and 5 BCE appointed Supreme Court justices. And even THEN he only "won" by one vote. Whether Supreme Court OR electoral.

So rest in peace Julia, and know that the people never chose the Idiot Son of an Asshole

18. Thanks for posting it!
I don't watch the "news", so I wouldn't have known.

And, I'm sure you brought out more about her than will be on any news show... :hi:
