Heads ups 100 percent disabled Vets ..Social Security is gunning for you
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 02:47 PM by vetwife
I am furious. I don't know about all the disabled vets but I know mine is 90 percent bedridden and the Dept of labor and social security is re evaluating and its not like the thing they do every three years. Stupid ass questions and letter that has to be taken to doctors and he is PERMANETLY DISABLED adjudicated by the VA in 93.
Now they want letter signed by his Doctor knowing Dam good and well that it is next to impossible to get a VA appointment out of schedule. Well I am one Hell Fire Dangerous Woman when it comes to my family. Someone at the VA will see me and the SS Dept will know my fury come Monday ! VA is not a problem YET..but Scial Security is REACHING and they are REACHING for you my Vet Buddies !

2. Could be worse
my 100% disabled dad and my mom got 2 letters last month from the VA, giving condolences on my father's passing and telling her she was about to get cut off...too bad he's very much alive! It was such a pain in the ass to clear it up too!

8. Interesting.
Does your husband get Social Security Disability? Is he service connected disabled? You should have no problems if so.

9. I went through it too
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 04:25 PM by Ezlivin
I'm a 100% disabled veteran and the SS office called me to re-evaluate my injury.

I showed up at their office with my medical records, they took a quick look at me in my wheelchair, had me sign a form and said that they were done. They also said I would not have to reappear since it was obvious that my condition (SCI) was permanent.

(But when Kerry is elected we'll get stem cell research going and perhaps I'll get a shot at walking again. Then I'll gladly give up my pension.)

When I was in the service I thought of the day that I would be a civilian again and not have to jump though the gov't hoops. Alas!

10. Not from Social Security but the Dept of Labor concerning SS
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 05:10 PM by vetwife
He is 100 percent Post Traumatic and has flashbacks, migranes and nightmares. He rarely leaves the Bed especially after this Iraqi deal ! The thing has to be completed by his psychiatrist in 10 days and I know as well as all of you, seeing a VA doctor without an appointment is next to impossible. Of course there will be no poblem as he has a very good doctor but this is Bullshit !. If it were coming from the Social security or Va, I could understand but the Dept of Labor who deemed him unemployable 11 years ago !
Yep he is 100 percent Permanently and totally disabled adjudicated from the VA in 1993 and by social security in 94.

11. Have you tried the DAV?
I am a life member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and PVA (Paralyzed Veterans of America).

The PVA has gone to bat for me many times. I'm sure that the DAV could point you in the right direction, at the very least.

12. Well I know where to go..I am the CEO of a veterans organization
I know all about Title 38 and this is some sort of State BS. I will get it straight.......I appreciate your direction. The VA knows me, SS knows me and the Dept of Labor will know me real soon ! I probably will go by and get his papers from ROI on his visits and have the doc sign this stupid inquest, I will call her Monday and fax her the info but I know vets here in Ga. going through all kinds of junk ! Whats next? They Want me to drag him out of bed and send him to Iraq?

Thanks ya'll. I appreciate your input ..I just get really tired of fighting the same fight for vets, but that is what I do but it makes me outrageously mad when I have to do it for the one I live with and I certainly know his condition ! I don't get paid. All volunteer. I founded United Veterans and my whole board of Directors are getting picked at. They are all disabled.

15. For many veterans the war starts when they return
I'm sorry to hear of your travails.

Your problems do sound terribly suspicious. It sounds like a perfectly good example of bureacracy run amok.

Good luck and best wishes!

And thanks for your service to veterans. I speak not so much for myself, but for the others who cannot.

14. Lets put our heads together
I know you have this covered on a personal level (what a woman!)

However, this is happening to many, I would guess.

This, along with the other outrages to veterans needs to be addressed in as PUBLIC a way as possible. Can we cogitate on this, and come up with a potent and non-ignorable way to make this HUGE in the media?

Kanary, whose thinker is sorta on strike..... :hi:

16. Good idea....Kanary
Oh if I get angry enough ya'll may all see me on TV. You should have seen the questions. First our daughter about church at public school.now this with my husband's affliction , what next, already been turned in to Elderly Abuse because I was only buying groceries and allowing him to live on his own,(My Dad) so I moved him with me even though my son was there with him and the right wingers went after me on that one but it was me who had to deal with that mess. Now I have seven people living with me. My sister who is a fundie got off without a peep. I had the case closed and threatned a lawsuit and told the next abuse charge of no substance would costthe fundie who turned me in..A Nut ! she and her properties. I would never abuse my Dad, I am just broke. And to top it all off, remember my son getting fired, a r-winger calling him names. He has never even got a jaywalking ticket. I am really under the gun here but I got a mouth and a Hell of a lot of people I know in DC and I fight ! I will continue to fight and Death is the only thing that will shut me up !

17. Just a question/suggestion.
Do you need to have an appointment to have the papers signed, or can they be signed based on medical records already in the file?

I work with a lot of SS recipients and hate these reviews. One mentally disabled client used to call me at home afraid he was going to lose his home because of these "routine" reviews.

18. Yes, the fear from the threats does much damage.
I know a shrink who works with many people on SSI, and he gets angry at these things, saying "I work hard to try to help people gain a sense of worth and a sense of security in themselves, and they send out some threatening letter that wipes out much of my efforts."

It is really evil what these idiots do to helpless people.

20. Moon.....It was from Dept of Labor to be filled out by the Dr.
In all of my workings with the VA and Social Security I have never seen such a garbage guestionnaire. Nope..They are asking for Records and I have most but they are wanting spcific questions filled out by his Doctor and then one of the questions is , get this,
Is the climant credible in answering the questions they sent us. Well she is gonna say yes. She has treated him for years and she knows we don't lie. This is a bunch of nonsense and not from social security or the VA. It says boldly after I filled out questions regarding my husband...On second set..TAKE THIS TO THE VA PSYCHIATRIST TO COMPLETE and return to this office within 10 days.
To the Doctor it asked for her to send some records. DOCTOR MUST COMPLETE AND SIGN. I will just have to crash the VA and hope he doctor will see me. ITs not like she aready isn't overworked and stressed out from this administration. I know this Dr. and she has just about had it and only see the worst of the Trauma patients. She is chief of Mental Health at the VA. We have a good relationship and she isn't gonna be happy about this either.

26. ARGGHHH
And it's summertime too, no chance the doctor is on vacation. Most doctors work hard to help their clients, but the timeline is ridiculous.

I know you are so competent, and that you are on the east coast, but I surely wish you were in the upper midwest. I'm so angry about this. I'd like to help.

21. One of the unspoken things in these threats is the demand to be
"available" to them at all times.

You're never supposed to have *any* life of your own.

Take this one demand: It has to be filled out in 10 days, or severe consequences.

Think about that for a minute.

Because of the difficulty in even getting in to see a Dr., they are expected to cancel WHATEVER they had planned for Monday, and drop EVERYTHING ELSE IN THEIR LIVES to go take care of this.

If they had a dental appointment, tough _ _ _ _. Cancel it and go take care of this demand.

They have a medical emergency with the elderly relative or one of the kids, tough _ _ _ _, go take care of this deman.

They are home sick, tough _ _ _ _. " " " "

They needed to finish up plans and have a birthday party for a child, tough _ _ _ _.

Imagine for one minute living with this kind of tyranny. Especially considering what this man gave for this country!

Then, imagine if they had managed to get away for the week to visit relatives, and weren't even HOME when this demand came in the mail.

Then think of the absurdity that this man is the one who is the "identified patient".

Guess where the INSANITY *really* is.

Kanary, who really wishes the populace would think through these things.......and get furious about it.

23. Yup, and I also meant to mention in my tirade
that they are also VERY good at sending these things out so that you get them either late Friday, or on Saturday, so you can sit and stew in fear over the weekend.

CRIMINALS! I hope they all end up severely disabled, and have evil bastards hovering over their every breath.

24. Same thing was pulled on my hubby
Disabled in the line of duty. Bad guy got 25 years for attempting to murder him and another person. STILL, 2 1/2 years too early comes the form for SS requesting information from his doctor. Well we are always ready for this game so we got out the form the doctor wrote just a few months ago. Then made a copy of the Public Officers Safety Act (same one cops/firemen had on 911) which was awarded to him just over a year ago. Awarded from the Federal Govt the same one dicking with us now over this.

Haven't heard shit but the money is in the bank. They need money for Iraq somehow and I know they would take the money away from people who need to eat if they must.

Make sure you make copies of everything you send to them. Especially that questionnaire. Keep it in the file and anticipate this happening your hubby again within 4 years.

Wonder how many deaths this has caused.
