Are we sometimes our OWN worst enemy? Feedback welcome....
OK - we tend to be the party/culture that engages our brain, thinks about issues, finds strength and interest in exploring the grey. We are opposed by a mongrel mix of one issue, reactive types, non-thinkers - and, yes, unfortunately, ignorance and hatred. It is all stirred up by the right wing talking heads on TV and Radio. Our goal is to improve, explore, make things better - PROGRESS. Theirs is to hide their heads in the sand, not think, "return to better times - to CONSERVE.

So - is our natural inclination to explain, provide supporting facts - working against us - and in us, I mean the entire Democrat political strategy. Should we not be using what works so well for the Repugs - repeat, repeat, repeat - sound bites of Bush's lies (think of the possibilities - around the word "sensitive", the data on jobs and the economy, "Mission Accomplished", no WMD's against his State of the Union misaddress....think of what a few simple, oft repeated ads - justaposing reality with his lies - could do? What if we stripped down the discussions and logic and just repeated the facts - over and over and over.....

I think we are aiming our efforts right over the heads of those we are trying to draw in....it is time to start playing their game! We don't have to get necessarily hateful and offensive - just repeat, repeat, repeat - and sharpen the key messages.

Thoughts?

however, I disagree with "aiming our efforts right over the heads of those we are trying to draw in". These would be the undecided - those intelligent to make a decision for themselves.

on edit - Welcome to DU! :hi:

4. What we're doing now would've succeeded easily a few decades ago...

...meaning, it's not so much we're doing something wrong, but that the GOP now has Rove & other propagandists & billions of $ that we don't have. They had a head start decades ago and we're trying to catch up. They're faster and have more people hired full time to do their dirty work w/the media and have gotten everything down to a fine art that appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Using humor & entertainment to get the facts out (F9/11 & The Daily Show) have been our greatest successes so far in affecting public opinion.

Sorry, I have no answers - just observations.

Edited to add: "Oh yes, and Welcome to DU!"
