The final planeload in the airlift of the 2nd Infantry Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, dubbed the ``Strikeforce,’’ departed from the U.S. Air Base in Osan, about 70 kilometers south of Seoul, Wednesday morning, to be airlifted to the Middle Eastern gulf nation.
The U.S. military has said the operation was one of its biggest logistical undertakings on the peninsula since the 1950-53 Korean War.

Where the Iraq-bound troops will operate and whether any of its servicemen will return to South Korea after their yearlong mission, remains unknown.
The brigade’s key combat machinery, such as the Abrams tanks, the Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Humvees, were shipped to Iraq late last month.
