Are there enough National Guard troops in Florida?
Mods, please delete if this has already been discussed.

I was under the impression that one of the prime mandates for the National Guard was to come to the aid of the citizenry during times of natural disaster. Now, if a large portion are off fighting in Iraq and elsewhere, will this have an impact on disaster operations in Florida? And, if so, will this reflect poorly on the President in the Sunshine State?

1. 7000 for Andrew
1200 for Charley

(and there were 22,000 army troops for Andrew as well)

reported in another thread, sorry, no link.

2. yahoo has two pix of NG troops in Port Charlotte. Is there a way to find
out if Florida NG troops were held back from going to Iraq in order to cover W/Jeb's butt in case of a hurricane? I guess in a hurricane prone state, that would be sensible.

4. Hell No!!!!
Every National Gardsman, be it man or woman, enlisted in the Guard of the State of Florida should be in the state of Florida. One a single one of them should be anywhere else and certainly should not be outside of the country. Let the army venture abroad, let the guard do their job of guarding the nation at home.
