A friend of mine applied for a job with the Dept. of Homeland Security and
they told her that they had a hiring freeze because someone's stealing a lot of money from them on the inside and they can't figure out who it is. So until they do they aren't going to hire anyone new.

THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHO IS STEALING MONEY?!???!

No I do not have a link to this or anything of the sort, just a story from a friend who applied and if I can get more details from her I will. She's going to graduate from college soon and wants to work in the crime-fighting field.

APPARENTLY THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO FOR SUCH A THNG.

1. Maybe they just lost it

like the 1 trillion dollars that the Defense Department can't account for.

Or maybe the Defense Department stole it to make up for their losses.

Family squabbles are so ugly ...

3. Your friend is correct!
quote........
The Department of Homeland Security has temporarily stopped hiring employees for two of its main divisions as it seeks to find out if it is facing a large budget shortfall or simply having problems reconciling the books after the largest government merger in history.

Using current spending figures, budget analysts projected large budget deficits by the end of the fiscal year.

The spokesman declined to specify the amount of the projected deficits, saying that different methods resulted in different projections. But the Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the potential shortfall is $1.2 billion.

this is sinful!DHS is 10% of the Pentagon's budget! Bushit still believes we live in the cold war era!

President Bush requested $40.2 billion for DHS in his 2005 budget, and $401.7 billion for the Pentagon, 18 percent of the $2.4 trillion request.

5. thank you for helping with a link!
That is great to get the inside news on this.

There is so much sniping at DU, and people discounting personal stories because there is "no link"... I appreciate the old-fashioned Democratic kindness of helping to find the info!

1.2 billion. Great. I wonder who's pocket that is residing in.

Well, here comes more cuts to elderly, disabled folks and children.

7. everything is alright!
Its the new concept. use the power of federal government to tax and borrow so they can steal it. we only see that which they cant hide. The real damage is unseen.
John Kerry is either a damn fool or a champion because he knows this.

17. federal law enforcement is sticky
more politics than you can imagine.

her best bets @ fed jobs wd be:

Border Patrol, if she wants uniform duty & speaks spanish.

BATF, has little use for white men. females & minorities can get hired. plain clothes.

Secret Service, uni & plainclothes duty.

Customs is short staffed & will be needing uni & plainclothes agents for some time.

these are all *under* homeland security, but shdnt be affected by the freeze.

tell her to steer clear of DEA; they're mostly about #s & being able to confiscate property. VERY dirty & dangerous.
