Noonan's "talent" rejected by WH, she'll write for Santorum
snip>
Noonan won't be penning this Bush's speech, G.O.P. sources tell TIME; instead, she will lend her hand to the addresses of New York Governor George Pataki and Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Though from different wings of the party—Santorum is a faith-based conservative and Pataki a moderate—both are believed to harbor national ambitions and could use Noonan's help in making the most of their moment in the spotlight.

A master at turning ideology—or the lack of it—into something inspiring, Noonan has plenty to do. Republicans watched the Democrats mount an almost pitch-perfect middle-of-the-road convention in Boston and are wondering how they can match it. Although Noonan was not recruited by the White House ("She broke down the door," says a Bush supporter), top Bush aides telephoned her last week to welcome her aboard.

their opponents seem like insane radicals. They'll stir up violence among the New York protesters.

It just sort of fits with the way they operate. Everything is always negative- even attempts to appear positive. They don't try to elevate themselves, they just try to knock everyone else down.

7. They seem to run alot of the same plays, don't they?
Though I think it's still officially inappropriate to point it out. Maybe it'll be acceptable after we've been issued our striped pajamas. :p

12. Talented? You really think so?
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 06:44 PM by Paladin
Jeez, I think she is virtually devoid of journalistic talent. Honest to God, there are kids on the paper at the high school up the street from me who write better than Noonan does.

You're dead-bang on about the "creepy nut bag" thing, however; makes my skin crawl. She and that cretin Santorum deserve one another.....

15. not as a journalist
but as a speech writer. Remember she wrote for Bush 1 which would have to be the second hardest President to have written for. She made him actually sound good on occassion which is nearly a miracle. The only harder job would be making Bush 2 sound good. If she could do that she would be the most talented writer on earth.

14. Melodramatic....theatrical...bore....
Though since her name came up, can someone tell me how a "wordsmith" of her "reputation" cannot wince when she hears Bush speak? Talk about a lack of integrity - how can any "speech" professional not criticize Bush's speaking skills?

18. Noonan quote - surprised she's still welcome at WH
Peggy Noonan, former speech writer for President Reagan, commenting on Bush's White House interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" this past Sunday said: "The president seemed tired, unsure and often bumbling. His answers were repetitive, and when he tried to clarify them he tended to make them worse. He seemed in some way disconnected from the event."
