Bush on Charley: "The government is here to help people help thems........
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 05:18 PM by plastic_turkeys
He started to say 'themselves' then quickly said "help them rebuild their lives". They just can't help it, these neocons, their philosophy is so ingrained.

2. Oh that's great...
...Hurricane hits, and Bush says, in his 'brothers' state, "hi there, I see ya holding the rubble of your home. I'll applaud and cheer you on while you help yourself. Go ahead, start rebuilding. Oh, you lost your car to get to work. Um, gee, how about finding work locally. Oh really, well f*ck you too!"

3. It's funny in a way...
I heard that too and didn't say anything to my wife because even she's starting to get upset that I see stuff under the bed so to speak. I'm quite surprised that he caught himself....must have been laying off the hooch for a day.

4. I am surprised he did not pull out that famous quote from St. Reagan
"The twelve scariest words in the English language are: 'I am from the government and I am here to help you.'" --Ronald Reagan

7. Dressed up.
What a surprise that he wasn't dressed up in a EMT suit or something of that kind.

8. "Neighbors helpin' neighbors. That's the lesson here".
Brother George offering platitudes and more wind to a devastated area.

He and Jeb were joshing and joking with people, like it was a fucking block party.

10. Good catch !
That's exactly what he started to say....But he was "sensitive" just in time to catch himself. What's next? He calls on their neighbors to help rebuild their homes, etc? What does he think the role of government is in situations such as this, I wonder?

17. So, instead of just making the trip to reassure
these people and let them know that they would receive help, and to assess the damage for himseslf, he turns it into another campaign stop. Gee, did they have to sign "loyalty oaths", too/ The only line I heard him say as I was flipping channels this afternoon was the one about the victims of the storm "being dislocated", like they were an injured shoulder. I had to shake my head at that one. What was he trying to say?

Republicanism itself, will help US in the Florida clean-up

Here's why:

I heard a town official standing next to a woman who had lost everything...and TWICE I heard these words come out of his mouth...She cried, and told how she had lost EVERYTHING she owned..

The reporter then asked the town official how the town and state would be helping the people...

Without even giving her a hug or a look, he went on to say.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

paraphrasing..

"..people need to take personal responbsibility...they should have at least THREE days' worth of emergency supplies... they need to be responsible for taking care of themselves for up to a week."..

I thought ..How special...

Did he expect that elderly woman to strap those supplies to her back??? She probably DID have enough supplies to care for herself, but it all was destroyed..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the mindset that will do them in, come November.. The rank and file Republicans are just people.. People like we are.. They bleed when they are cut, they cry when they are hurt or sad.. These folks have "believed the hype", but now the rubber is on the road, and let's just see how eager the town officials/state officials are to actually offer the FREE help that these folks need.. Loans (low cost or otherwise) are just that..LOANS.. An 86 year old woman on a fixed income CANNOT afford ANY loans...low cost or otherwise..

The most devastated areas seemed to be older people in mobile or manufactured housing. These places were probably paid off decades ago.. The "rebuilding" process is hard enough for young healthy people, but for these people it will be all but impossible..

The year-rounders VOTE..They have been sold a bill of goods on the prescription thing, and there is NO WAY they can hold anyone BUT a BUSH to blame if they do not get the help they need now..

It's kind of ironic , really, when you consider that a mainstay of the Republican party is "self-reliance", yet when disaster hits, it's public help that is needed and given..

The republican mindset needs to be expanded a bit, to help them realize that there are all kinds of "disasters", and though theirs was weather-related, it is no MORE serious, than the woman who has been beaten by an evil husband...or a family whose Dad has lost his job..or an ill person with no insurance..

Disasters are personal...and they all require help.. It's not a bad thing to need help from others..and it's not a bad thing to offer it
