VENESUELA
Clandestine sources email allegedly preliminary results to the international media

-snip-

The private media, however, walk the streets in the opposition neighborhoods, surveying crowds and inciting them to dramatic scenes of impatience, harping all the time on the alleged incompetence of the voting process in general. For the cameras, they chant “We want to vote!” As usual the opposition-loaded private media continues to create their own stories at the expense of any real news.

Already with just minutes to spare before 3:00 p.m. international media began receiving emails from IP address 172.138.233.63 claiming to release preliminary results. In accordance with electoral regulations, VHeadline.com will not publish the information ... we do not give much credence to the information since tracing the sender IP to Virginia, USA!

Within the past hour, the CNE announced that they had recovered a recording of the CNE president announcing that Chavez had lost the election. Audio technicians were quickly able to declare the recording a fake but it is clear that radical elements had planned to broadcast it to announce a supposed victory for the opposition.

With the discovery and technical backup, it appears now that the opposition has created an even more embarrassing situation for itself, since an opposition official has publicly gone on the record admitting that the story is true. The private media has interview confused members of the opposition who claim that they voted Yes, but that the machine "ate" their vote, and printed "No." When asked for proof, they responded that they torn them up and thrown them away...

The same sad story reappears in opposition reporting from San Francisco (California) where members of the opposition have advised their supporters to refuse to provide documentary proof of legal residence in the USA). The idea is that given the fact they will consequently be denied the opportunity to vote, it will implant an image of repression of voter’s rights and ultimately to discolor a projected Chavez victory.

Edi.ted upon request. Evidently I typed hoah instead of hoax. Actually, I liked it better the other way.

4. Amazingly enough....
It is a bunch of our wingers up here.

ChimpCo Inc. supports and finances the opposition. They try to crush democracy wherever it rears its ugly head.

Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 08:03 PM by ParanoidPat
I did a quick trace of that IP address and it comes back to ac8ae93f.ipt.aol.com which, IIRC, is located next door to CIA headquarters in Va. :)

So I guess the coup didn't work out as planned so they're resorting to D5E.

D5E:destruction, degradation, denial, disruption, deceit, and exploitation

CONCEPT PAPER

Working Group on Preventive and Preemptive Military Intervention

William W. Keller and Gordon R. Mitchell1
Project Coordinators

<Snip>

U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, called for an FBI investigation into the forgery of documents cited by President Bush and Secretary Powell as proof of Iraq’s nuclear transactions with Niger. As Rockefeller explained in a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller: “There is a possibility that the fabrication of these documents may be part of a larger deception campaign aimed at manipulating public opinion and foreign policy regarding Iraq.”26

The timeliness of Rockefeller’s proposed inquiry was underscored by the appearance of official documents that lay out official American deception plans: "In a document last autumn, the joint chiefs of staff stressed the need for strategic deception and influence operations as tools of war. The army, navy and air force have been directed to devise plans for information warfare."27

According to defense analyst William Arkin, the Bush strategy lays out goals for information warfare that pursue D5E: "destruction, degradation, denial, disruption, deceit, and exploitation." Arkin notes that the wide array of sites and ractices of information control brought into the range of this policy "blurs or even erases the boundaries between factual information and news, on the one hand, and public relations, propaganda and psychological warfare on the other."28

This fusion of military deception programs with media propaganda efforts enabled the Office of Strategic Influence to commission officers from the U.S. Army's Psychological Operations Command to work as interns in the news division of CNN.29

Eventually, the Bush Administration was burned by the political heat generated when the Office of Strategic Influence was leaked to the media. The ensuing firestorm of controversy prompted Secretary Rumsfeld to close the propaganda unit. Yet less than a year later, Rumsfeld stipulated that his action had only been symbolic, and that information warfare missions were still underway at other Pentagon offices: And then there was the Office of Strategic Influence. You may recall that.
And “oh my goodness gracious isn't that terrible, Henny Penny the sky is going to fall.” I went down that next day and said fine, if you want to savage this thing, fine, I'll give you the corpse. There's the name. You can have the name, but I'm gonna keep doing every single thing that needs to be done and I have.30

The political implications of blurring military strategic deception and public sphere propaganda are worth exploring, given Arkin's concerns about military deception that "while the policy ostensibly targets foreign enemies, its most likely victim will be the American electorate."31

Think of Harvey Korman as Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles, as he contemplates snatching the land under the town of Rock Ridge. THAT's the neocon mentality.

9. I'd rather give the money to Chavez
than the Saudi Royal family. At least Chavez spends some of the money on the poor people in his country. The Saudis support the lavish lifestyles of 600+ princes and then they send us their terrorists to thank us.

35. Go ChavezGO!!

The honest truth is ... at least in the streets ... nothing out of the ordinary is going on. People are waiting patiently in line ... sometimes for hours on end ... for their turn at the voting machines and that's the plain truth.

There's no Chavista propaganda ... no one is wearing Chavista red ... they're sincerely respecting the public call on television last night asking people to abide by a peaceful, democratic voting process and not to bring propaganda to the polls.
