"...the energy we bring to our endeavors...
I finally figured it out.

Kennedy knew America's role in the world. He summed it up in this piece in his inaugural speech.

"...the energy we bring to our endeavors will enkindle a flame, and the light from that flame will enlighten the world."

He talked of an America that represents the best of humanity. He talked of an America that dared to pursue impossible dreams. He talked of an America that would bring out the best in each of us and also the best of other nations.

America needs to be an example for the world, not the bully on the block. This message has been forgotten but in a sense, Kerry needs to portray this alternative vision of America to the rest of the country, and we, as a country, need to live up to it.

That, my fellow DUers is what this election is really all about.

1. You said it, bud.
Does the soul of America find its expression in Abu Ghraib? Hell no! Does it find its expression by propping up dictators who align themselves with us for all the wrong reasons? Nope.

Kennedy was a great leader because he reminded us of who we were and appealed to the best of our common heritage. And he demanded that we bring it forth.

2. This is the
feeling I get from Kerry/Edwards. When Edwards spoke in Lawrence,Ks. he brought many of us to tears because he made us feel like we could be better and do better and that all of us deserved better. It was an amazing thing to be a part of, the more people who get to see them the better off we are going to be. It was so inspiring.

3. When Kennedy said "My fellow Americans"
he meant it because he believed in his fellow Americans. He trusted us and we trusted him. He had vision. He shared that vision with all of us. Very different from what we have now. bushco* shares nothing with us unless it is the burden of their failures. Not a vision for a prosperous future, but one of constant struggle. Not one of trust, because they trust no one outside their small circle. I knew what hope felt like with JFK. I was old enough to feel it. It's been a long time since I've felt it. I'm beginning to feel it again with John Kerry.
