I think it's always been there, only it's more noticeable now that he scowls so much and there isn't anything to distract us from seeing the more grotesque side of him. Here's a pic from when he looked as appealing as he was ever going to get, poor fellow.




p.s. my guess is that it's gotten more inflamed since then, with all the sun exposure, plus he probably rubs it when he's frustrated, and who knows what else!
