Bush said "The rich don't pay taxes!"
The other day I heard Bush at a campaign stop say the Kerry's tax plan would hurt small business, because the rich don't pay taxes. So it's SB that would feel the brunt of Kerry's upper bracket roll back.
Maybe this was discussed here, but I missed it.
I heard nothing in the media about this!
If the rich don't pay taxes, how does a tax cut aimed primarily at the rich stimulate the economy? Are they spending the extra income from the taxes they don't pay anyway? This statement should show America how bankrupt *'s economic policies are.
But we won't hear about it. Why hasn't the Kerry team pounced on this? where are the anti-Bush commercials with this?
I'd appreciate your comments.

1. they did prior to Reagan
Didn't the wealthy pay the majority of income taxes prior to Reagan coming in and slashing the top tax rates?

2. And the rich also benefit from governmetal
protections and regulations of the banking system, financial system, consumer protection, environment, transportation, infrastructure, etc, but Shrub doesn't expect them to help support this deep infrastructure. He wants them to get a free ride.

4. Well, they shouldn't be getting tax cuts
if they don't pay in to begin with.

5. Actually, if it was the same campaign speech...
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 08:19 AM by Flubadubya
I believe he said "The rich find was to avoid paying taxes." ...which is worse than saying they don't pay taxes. He is actually accusing them of doing something illegal, but, rather than condemn it, he holds it out as somehow an exemplary behavior.

He would know all about the rich avoiding paying taxes. He considers it his job to make it so they don't have to break the law anymore, though. He plans to make it the law that the rich don't HAVE to pay taxes.

These people have ZERO consciense, I guarantee you that! :grr:

7. From Flubadubya:
"I believe he said "The rich find was to avoid paying taxes." ...which is worse than saying they don't pay taxes. He is actually accusing them of doing something illegal, but, rather than condemn it, he holds it out as somehow an exemplary behavior."

That's my point! * is saying "why bother to tax the rich, they will find ways not to pay. He isn't saying; "Let's make sure they DO pay. But let them get away with it. It both shows him to be a butt boy for the rich and also how his tax policy is then contradictory.

I want to know why this quote isn't being used more. Isn't this much more harmful than some of the quotes they are using against Kerry?

8. It is on the official white house web site
(no fooling).

You have to search for it, though.

Look for he date and the town, then read through it the text.

It's not "whitewashed", just buried, and with the keyword "rich" scrubbed from the list of keywords.
