Booooo!!!!! Olympics create complete web blackout of international radio
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 12:00 PM by Armstead
If you listen to international radio on the Internat, you may have noticed that services like the BBC, CBC, Radio Australia, etc. are blocked out during the Olympics.

This really sucks. Apparently the International Olympic Committee forbids any Internet broadcasting of their precious games.

That might be understandable if they only required blackouts during actual Olympic coverage.

BUT, and here's the really stinky part, they are not just blocking periods when stations are transmitting the actual Olympic events. According to the CBC, it prohibits all live programming that might contain references to protected events.

In other words, they can't even broadcast the news if the newscast includes results, snippets or mentions of Olympic events.

Sop in order to avoid running afoul of this great "sporting event dedicated to international goodwill" most of these major international broadcasters have shut down ALL live internet broadcasts during the weeks of the Olympics.
