Novak: GOP to Implode if Bush Loses
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 04:48 PM by Mike L
"For all the talk about polarization, I find a startling agreement (from) everybody I talk to," syndicated columnist Robert Novak told the audience. "Nobody seems to like George Bush very much. The Democrats I talk to hate him and the Republicans aren't very enthusiastic about him."

"If George W. Bush loses this election, you are going to find an implosion in the Republican Party," Novak said. "The Christian conservatives will be blamed, unfairly I think, by people who don't want them in the party."

http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCommentary.asp?Page=%5CCommentary%5Carchive%5C200408%5CCOM20040816c.html

We can only hope Novak is right on THIS point.

Speaking of Ryan?

Nothing wrong with that lifestyle if it's consensual.

Seems his wife's objections were to swinging. Don't know anything further than that.

44. it sucks when it's not consensual and it is questionable when it is
He takes her once, she says no. He takes her again she says no. So he takes her again and she cry and he yells at her because "it's a turn off when you cry"... or some such abusive nonsense.

Even when consensual it is questionable of this lifestyle is healthy emotionally or physically. People agree to all kinds of thing that they later regret.

3. implode but not go away
Nobody has secured the nukes in Pakistan and former U.S.S.R.

If one of those nukes gets sold and America suffers an attack, we'll have a rightwing resurgence like you wouldn't believe. The Patriot Act will be child's play. The GOP will come back and build a cross on the White House lawn and detain all non-Christians. "Our founding fathers would have wanted it that way," they'll say.

6. There will be a GOP boodbath which may be a prelude
to a genuine re-alignment in favor of the Dems. At the heart of this GOP fissure is the dominance of the fundies and their ant-future agenda. It's a real turnoff for the libertarian/Gopers. From the ruins may emerge a pro-life party. However first things first. AWOL must be beaten. If he wins all the spilts get papered over and WE have a bloodbath amongst ourselves.

25. Astounding to find myself agreeing with Robert "Mr. Treason" Novak.
But here, I do.

That's really fascinating - "Nobody seems to like george bush very much...and the Republicans aren't very enthusiastic about him." WHOA! I'd also say LET THE IMPLOSION BEGIN!

He's wrong about one aspect of this - about the Xian conservatives (can't use the name of Christ in reference to these awful people) "will be blamed, unfairly I think, by people who don't want them in the party." Nothing unfair about it. They ARE to blame. They are MAINLY to blame. They're MOST of what's really gone egregiously bad about what I used to think of as the Republican party. They're the body-snatchers and the bedroom busy-bodies and the rapture-hasteners and the holier-than-thous. They, as a single group, have done more to spread hatred and intolerance than any other group I can think of in our recent history, except maybe the KKK. But perhaps they're worse because they do it in the name of Our Lord, and carry on as though this is His work and His wish. They're nothing but modern-day Pharisees who've given EVERY religion a bad name. They've done more to damage the concept of religion, and of belief in God, than anybody. Even more than the Islamic whackos have. They put Osama to shame. They make al Qaeda look like a Romper Room convention. It is TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY fair and accurate to blame them for EVERYTHING. Mainly by turning the Prince of Peace into a figurehead of hate.

My disgust with what these phoney people have done in the name of christ has caused me to utter shameful things that I really don't believe - here on this forum.

I am truly surprised at the hate that these haters has caused to well up in me as a defense.

Of that, I am truely sorry, for I know I am better than that.

I was once proud to be a Christian during the struggle for Civil Rights. I was even glad for "politicing" in the churches - because they were doing it for a nobel cause. I don't feel that way anymore.

Maybe I can soon feel that way again.

or, a re alignment/re adjustment/cleansing out/mode.

They will come back wiser and learned in How to survive in a symbiotic compromise....it will take time to realize true progress comes with maturity in judging/making decisions/ with higher odds.

32. The opposite is true.
Should Bush win, the entire GOP will continue to collapse under its own weight. I predicted this years ago and have been proven right ever since.

Should Kerry win then they will be galvinized against a supposed enemy. Should Bush win however his extremism will divide and isolate people even within his own party. After all, we now see Bob Barr working for the ACLU and Ron Reagan jr. addressing the democratic national convention.

The Right-Wingers are based on hate. They need an enemy to focus all the unreasoning emotional hatred of their constituents against.

If Kerry wins, they can make him the focal point of all things wrong in the world and continue to grow their faith and fear based party.

These idiots will always be with us. All we can do to minimize their proportion is educate the masses. Educated people are generally left-thinking.

40. Two thoughts running through brain.........
1) I'm so happy to hear this spoken because I've wondered if the nation is getting to the end of the Religious Right "bubble"...I was wondering if there was ever going to be a turning against them. I see that Chuck Hagel, for example has expressed running in 2008 (he impress me as a moderate) and I would think that thinking, sensible people in the republican ranks would be thinking that they have to get this party out of the hands of the lunatics before this nation implodes!!! 2) I wonder how much of what you posted might also apply to us Dems---seriously, I just wonder where Dems will go (both the rank and file and the elected officials) if Kerry loses.

if it takes the party imploding to get rid of this dangerous faction, then so be it....

they are the greatest threat to democracy that this country has seen in a long time.

their every response to OBL has only worked against the interests of this nation, including their economic policy,

Of course, the way they have mishandled the "war on terrorism" and the totally lying dog bullshit of an Iraqi invasion mess has played right into terrorist's progagnda and has also weakened us financially...

while Cheney's Halliburton loots the treasury.

Because that's my number one sticking point with him and his rabid .."God speaks through me"..shit! bush is crazed and he thinks God is only on his side..God told him to kill sadam, too.

So that coupled with his pandering to those puesdo Christians on stem cell research and no funding for anything with planned parenthood involved could make for a very strong case against those bible thumping hypocrites.

49. I shudder when I hear words like those from Novak and some of the
responses here - because it focuses everything on one man. Replacing him with an angel-hero will not affect the agenda of the right wing. There's is an ideology that is dangerous to the world. Removing that guy who likes raking brush and playing video games is not going to change the goals, objectives, and desired timeline of their agenda. It is dangerous to focus on Bush because it hides the gigantic and exquisitely orchestrated army that is descending on us with or without the marionette. They have a problem with the vote because of him, but they aren't going to be cured without him.

Also, they can't get rid of the fundamentalist and evangelical block - they are a significant per cent of the vote and Novak has to know it = substitute the phrase 'suit and tie and pearl necklaced country club voting bloc' for the religious right and there might be some practical truth there.

to say that the early Christian church was socialist. They pooled all of their resources and took care of each other when they were being hunted down by the Roman government.

If the Chimp loses, the religious whackos will be blamed, and the moderates will take over. They've been waiting a long time for this moment. It would put them in power within their party and give them time to reorganize for 2008.

53. What Goes Up, Must Come Down
I've been saying for the past few years that we are witnessing the destruction of the Republican Party. Looks like it's going to happen quicker than I thought.

56. perhaps, but as #3 points out
the next terrorist attack will make the Patriot Act look like a parking ticket. I think we're headed for a few generations of the Dark Ages, Taliban-style hegemony with a tribalist opposition. There's an interesting Tony Kushner play to that effect called "Homebody/Kabul".

Remember that Ohio and New Hampshire also have Repub governors and two Repub senators. Other likely candidates are McCain and Frist.

72. I agree with nofacts! I am not sure about the "unfairly" part, though.
Although Bush himself bears a large part of the blame, the fundies get a big portion as well.

"...The Christian conservatives will be blamed, unfairly I think, by people who don't want them in the party."

It would be unfair--the blame should shared with the greedy lying crooks who took over the party with the Christian conservatives!

75. The GOP will have to wrest their party from the Bush folks..
.. I have a feeling there is a filthy battle going on right now.. as we speak. The Bush's do not represent the majority of GOP... amongst the thinking Republicans. I know that the moderates are really wishing they were running someone else... I honestly think they're already imploding.

77. bad sign
if Novakkk who's a propagandist is acknowledging this, it's probably far worse for Bush right now. And that's bad, I actually wish they hoped Bush could win. In desperation, these anti-Christs are capable of anything, like starting another war before Nov, or plotting a new 9/11 or even a first-ever nuclear attack on American soil.
