Poor Bill O'Reilly
I read on FR earlier today and they were bashing him and calling him a liberal and he has fallen to the dark side and stuff like that because he defended Kerry in his latest article against the smearboat vets.

Of course poor old Bill doesn't get any respect here either. He has said many things that have pissed me off. His non-stop rants against the ACLU and telling a 9-11 survivor to shut up are just two that I can think of off the top of my head.

Poor Bill, he is hated by both liberals and conservatives. Who does he have left?

1. At least he loves
himself. (Or at least loves to hear himself talk.)

Bill O'Reilly's.

3. O'Really
O'Reilly actually defended Kerry? O'Really? What did he say?

BTW, he didn't yell at a 9/11 survivor. He yelled at a 9/11 survivor's son. Which is still pretty low.

6. I don't think the father survived...
I think he was very dead at the time. "Survivor" can also mean the family member left behind.

10. It is on his main homepage
Of course right after he defended Kerry he took a shot at Michael Moore and Wesley Clark, he was saying that because Clark didn't distance himself from Moore's comments about Bush in the national guard that sunk his canidacy.

11. Not sure if this is the same article being referenced, but here you go.

First off, I believe Jim Rassmann when he says that Kerry saved his life by pulling him out of a Vietnam river while under fire. Rassmann is a former Green Beret, a former police officer and a long time registered Republican until earlier this year. If he says John Kerry is a hero, nobody should doubt it. Rassmann has earned the right to be trusted and insulting his testimony is way out of line.
>snip<

>snip<
I think the Swift Boat political advertisement calling Kerry a charlatan is in poor taste, and if this kind of thing continues it might well backfire on the Kerry haters. Most Americans are fair minded, and bitter personal attacks do not go down well with folks who are not driven by partisanship. Remember, General Wesley Clark was knocked out of the Presidential sweepstakes when he would not disown Michael Moore's insane remark that President Bush was a "deserter." Mr. Bush received an honorable discharge from the National Guard. Admiral Elmo Zumwalt pinned a medal on John Kerry's chest. The record is the record, unless rock solid proof refutes it.

7. Who does he have left? Bush supporters
He's FOXes equivalent of Colin Powell.

I'd bet the farm he's going to say something like "You know I've been critical of Bush when he deserves it, right? You know I'm not a partisan, right? OK. So despite all my honest misgivings, the American people have to re-elect ..."

So freepers dissing him is good for the right's overall strategy.

12. nah
LaRouchies belong to the LaRouche cult of worship. Libertarians tend to be pro-freedom of speech, which O'Reilly is not.

14. Does any one know if Countdown
is catching O'Reilly in the ratings? I don't understand how anyone can watch him - and Countdown is usually great because it doesn't take itself too seriously.

20. Countdown's ratings have improved. . .
but they're no where close to Bill's and for that matter, still lag behind CNN. MSNBC's ratings overall are pitiful. I wish MSNBC would move Keith's show to 10pm against Aaron Brown's snoozefest.

15. Unfortunately he appeals to the "independents"....
..and by independents I mean repugs who don't like to admit they are repugs, call themselves independents, yet for everything one democrat does bad takes it as proof that democrats are bad and evil yet when a republican does something wrong it's "just politics" or "well all politicians are bad."

In other words a lot of people like Billy O himself.

Alot of people will dig the fact that he's pissed off the right AND the left.....

22. Don't forget hypocrasy
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 08:07 PM by Cloud
Remember all the arguments with freeper types about WMD and the reasons for war. We all heard this same line. "He gassed his own people." They go on about all the atrocities and the gassing of the Kurds and the dangers of WMD and that we did a good thing by removing Saddam.

Then after the death of the contractors and when their body parts were hung on a bridge all the freeper types were all for "Just nuking Fallujah and being done with it, Muslim and innocent are oxymorons, and so on."

So what should it be? Liberate them and give them freedom or just turn the sand in the desert into glass?

Something to ponder for the lurking freeps.

On edit: Welcome to DU by the way. :hi:

19. Typical O'Reilly tactic
He'll take a position that doesn't perfectly comply with Ailes' marching orders in order to position himself as a "moderate". It's probably why he says he's against the death penalty. (Maybe he really is, but it's only because death is too merciful compared to a life sentence of unimaginable torture.)

25. No wonder the guy doesn't go to therapy...
He'd find out real quick, he's just become what his father always wanted to be, a really successful bully. He's also hiding something, probably to do with sex.

28. I agree with O'Reilly 1% of the time... however
that doens't mean he isn't a first rate asshole, and a media whore. He isn't concerned about truth, fairness or balance... he cares about O'Reilly and how O'Reilly is percieved, hence his "outrage" when his position is questioned.

I dealt with jackasses like this in school, and I found that a Scooby Doo lunch box up aside the head once usually takes care of the problem.
