Harkin's message for Cheney ... WOW!
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 08:55 PM by mzmolly
Cheney, in campaign speeches, has been mocking that reference to sensitivity.

Harkin, D-Iowa and a former Navy fighter pilot, said Monday, "It just outrages me that someone who got five deferments during Vietnam and said he had 'other priorities' at that time would say that."

He said President Bush (news - web sites) and Cheney are "running scared because John Kerry has a war record and they don't." He said of Cheney, "What he is doing and what he is saying is cowardly. The actions are cowardly."

"When I hear this coming from Dick Cheney, who was a coward, who would not serve during the Vietnam War, it makes my blood boil," said Harkin. "He'll be tough, but he'll be tough with someone else's kid's blood."

1. And he's telling the pure, absolute truth.
We need more people saying these things, more often, and LOUDLY.

17. While Cheney may be a coward
We don't need Senators shouting that people who evaded service in Viet Nam were cowards for that reason alone. Harkin Cheneyed up IMHO.

19. Actually, had the "coward" not criticized a war hero, we wouldn't be
having this conversation.

So, Cheney is a COWARD because of his actions/criticism TODAY. Say it with me now, CHENEY IS A COWARD !!! :hi:

20. Disagree
If you use your post as VP to criticize the patriotism of others and also their fitness to be Commander-in-Chief, you open up your past to similar criticism.

If Cheney had said, "While, I think John Kerry has an admirable war record, I think President Bush and I are better to lead the country to the next 4 years because of X, Y and Z," then it is a different story. Taking something out of context about sensitivity and then mocking it is not the way to go... not denouncing the Swift Boat Liars is not the way to go...

7. Every American Should be Offended by the Kerry Attacks!!
It only shows how low this administration will go, and I'm sure they are mining depths none of us can imagine. Sad time for America. Servicemen should be held in the highest regard, regardless of politics.

9. Tom Harkin Rocks
Tom Harkin has been out there jabbing for quite a while now. He was on the trail with Howard Dean. It's a shame people are just now noticing.

Sure, as long as there are three Bushevik Shouters (incuding the Bushevik Host manuevering the cnversation favorable to the Emperor) and one weak centrist to abuse.

23. Did ya ever notice when Shrybya Inc. is on the attack...
they are just pointing out facts. But when their words come home to roost, then everyone else is shrill, negative, and partisan. Bullshit... It's about time Shrubya, Cheney and the rest of the Chickenhawks in this administration get called out for just what they are... And Goddess Bless Harkin for taking the first step.
