1. Our borders are safe.
No one is going to steal them.

It's the people crossing them that bu$h&co has antagonized that are the problem.

4. They aren't.
I live in the southwest and its a big problem. The lure of employment has overwhelmed any border security. Guess who makes the problem. It isn't the job seekers.

There are so many tragic stories of those that die in the desert. There are many other problems too. "Coyotes" that take money to get them thru and rip them off.

On the northern border there is a Gov. agency to mark it. The markers are so overgrown as to be unmarked. There was not enough money. There is one airplane to patrol hundreds of miles.

The ports are not secure. Thousands of containers land every day. Only 2% are inspected. I read a few years ago about how about a dozen Chinese arrived in a container box.

This is a disgrace.

The Bushco can spend 5.5 BILLION a month in Iraq and we are still targets in the shooting gallery.

9. They are wide open, I go to Mexico every weekend!
I almost laughed last weekend when I came back across, except it's not funny, they didn't even look in my vehicle. I have tinted windows and my girlfriend is Latin so she has dark skin, prime target right? Nope, they waved me right thru, they didn't even look in the car. They just asked what citizen are you. Sometimes they do get more involved, like looking in the car and making me roll down the windows, and also asking a lot more questions, like 3 total. Anyway for the most part it is a joke. More often than not I drive right thru with a simple question of what citizenship are you? It is a joke.. At least at the Mexico border it is. By the way I'm talking about the one at San Diego California.

3. take this from someone who's lived near the border....
They are impossible to enforce, and there are hundreds of illegal aliens that make their way into the U.S. everyday. You'd be astonished at how easy it is to get into here.

6. Let's give the Indian reservations on the border some federal help
in detaining illegal aliens. Plenty of illegal aliens enter the US through Indian reservations. Bush's lying when he says we're safer. Also, short of erecting a Berlin-style wall all around the border, we should have a comprehensive recruitment of Border police to maintain the borders and to stop illegal aliens from trying to place their political asylum claims in New York City. They know if they apply for a political asylum claim in New York City, it'll take up to two years to get processed and in the meanwhile, they're basically free to wander around in the U.S. Make sure that their political asylum claims and hearings stay within the state that they illegally entered in, and it should be processed very quickly.

8. This is the new third rail in politics
Our borders are wide open, which should be treated as a security issue, but neither party one wants to antagonize donors and voters. The dirty little secret of the Republican Party is that despite their tough talk on illegal immigration, the business side of the party likes the pressure it keeps on wages. Democrats view it as a human rights issue and can't seem to articulate an approach to limit illegal immigration. And neither party wants to piss off Latino voters who have been viewed as the next big thing for twenty years.
