Some say there's already 1000 dead. As of 8/17, this site says the number of US dead is 944.

3. I found it pretty powerful too
I went to school with 3 guys who lost fathers in Nam. One actually lost TWO fathers in Nam -- his adoptive father was killed in the DMZ in 1970. That picture takes me right back. Not easy to look at.

That boy's father was one of the first Americans killed during the Iraq invasion.

4. See, you're not looking
at it the right way. You have to look at it from the eyes of people in power.

We're all expendable numbers, and especially soldiers. We have 130,000 or so soldiers in Iraq, and less than 1000 have died so far.

6. Of course we can't know how many died.
I mean, it's not like the Army keeps track of its troops, or anything.

8. So you're saying...
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 12:10 PM by HFishbine
... it's probably closer to 1050? Since they obviously wouldn't have anybody on the list who isn't really dead. Thanks for making that point.

9. Plus or minus 100 is "good enough"?
Tell that to the families and friends of the fallen.

10. Do lighten up---the Iraq War is over
..didn't you hear?---well, maybe I should say "don't you hear the silence"?? I've ranted on this one before. Right after the "turnover" the media 'unplugged' Iraq. Moved it from everyday #1 story to the back page. Bush does not want it in front of the people from here to November because it's testimony to his grand, stupid cluster fuck and the media whores obliged him. Iraq doesn't exist any more for a lot of Americans. Some think democracy was given to them and now they have shopping malls and all sorts of good stuff and it's basically all over. The ones who are dying now sadly don't even have a rat's ass of caring by the American people. No wonder nobody has been interested enough to get an accurate body count. We are shoving everything unpleasant under the table in this country so the corporations can get their boy back into office.
