We owe our wounded soldiers and their families health care coverage
Our country links health insurance to employment. Thousands of American soldiers are coming home with horrible wounds that severely limit their ability to find employment.

We owe them. Big time.

I propose that any soldier returning from war that can not find employment due to a war injury be automatically enrolled into Medicare, covering himself and his family members.

It's the least we can do.

1. I Agree
Anyone laying their life down on the line for this country deserves the best. There shouldn't be any ifs, ands or buts about it, and no questions asked. They actually should be treated just as well as the President is after he leaves office - the best of everything for the rest of their lives. May I add that this government should figure out a way to provide health care for all Americans via the tax paying system - we should all be getting something for what we have to pay.:hi:

2. *EVERYONE* is owed quality medical care.
Connecting medical care to employment is inhuman, and must end.

We need to solve this problem by drawing everyone together to solve it to the benefit of all, and not further divide all of us.

3. oh I agree with you
but until that day comes, I think we need to start taking care of the families of our men and women getting their limbs shot off, eyes blinded and ear drums shattered.

4. Question
Why would the US Government, under this current administration implement a program for people that they have shown they don't care about, except when it hurts their PR.

This administration already plans to cut VA spending in 2006 should it get re-selected, so why would they put more names on the Medicare/Medicaid rolls now.

There is not enough reporting by our fine "balanced media", to even make this as important as Lori Hacking.

5. I guess its time for regime change
I think this issue would resonate throughout the land. Red and blue.

It's little ideas like this one that get people thinking about health coverage overall. Then maybe we can finally get somewhere on this issue.

6. I can't imagine that anyone would seriously be against improving care
for vets. I know we've become a really crazy country, but....... the military, and especially those who have been injured in combat, still have a huge amount of support.

I just disagree with continuuing to promote this as connected to employment. We ALL need to have coverage.

Although you may not think so, there is a subtle divisive issue here, and I hope that you will consider it.

We ALL need to be working together, rather than splintering for seperate groups. If we do that, it will result in MORE support for troops, (and everyone else!), not less.

The RW has successfully splintered us....... let's not be that cooperative with them.
